Title: The ultimate sleeper

"So why do we do this to Dodge Caravans and Plymouth Voyagers? Because it's fun and the factory made it easy for us! Many people don't know this, but in 1989 and 1990 these minivans were available with turbocharged 2.5L four cylinder engines. That's right, factory-built turbo minivans! These engines are actually pretty darn stout right out of the box and they take to performance upgrades very well; maintain a proper air/fuel ratio and you can run 25+ pounds of boost on the stock block, crank, rods, and pistons! "

You know, my Ranger was available as a turbo as well! Turbodiesel, that is. That gets me thinking!

I really really really wanna Caravan Turbo. Strip out the rear, and it'd be lighter, and it's good for hauling bikes. :praise: Insurance will be super low too, and i'd give it a 3 inch drop or so. :praise:
It's FWD, but i can live with that, especially after i see the look on the face of the guy i smoke in a drag race.
Of course it'd have to be manual.

According to the article quoted, the 89 and 90 vans had an available stock turbo engine. Nothing to be "done."

But all those vans had much bigger Garrett turbos.

I already said it was, and that i'd happily compromise the WWD for it's massive sleeper-ness. :praise:

That was the only one on a nationwide AutoTrader search that could have been a turbo manual. It's a 4-cyl manual, but there wasn't any more powertrain info than that.

You can use the money you save over buying a nice car and make it look pretty on your own.

I think Rag really wants the woody version. :praise: What's a minivan without wood paneling?

While there aren't any minivans I like currently, I can honestly say I'm glad we advanced beyond the stylistic design of those vans. And "woody" models... ugh.

They're not that bad if they're nice, which they never are. We used to have a woody van and the light colored trim had a plastic decal over it to give it that grain. The decal started pealing and it looked like shit.

If I had any beater mini-van...I'd convert it to mid-engine and RWD.   :P

So FWD Civic Si's understeer too much, thus needing RWD, and minivans dont? Umm, fo sho.

Well, ya gotta admit, a mid-engined RWD van would be cool, if just for the novelty factor.

If there wasn't one already...

I see your mid engined RWD van and raise you a supercharged mid engined RWD van.

But the Previa is ugly. ;)

The Previa reminds me of some kind of poorly designed 80s movie spaceship. I can just imagine them making spaceship sounds like they used to have in the Jetsons everytime I see one driving around.
