Title: Looking at an older XK8
Post by: Submariner on November 24, 2006, 09:57:09 PM

Just looking...

The XK is a sexy car.  This particular one has only 43000 miles.  It appears to be in excellent condition.  I've driven a few before, and I must say I love how they drive.  The best part?  It's less than 13 grand!  If I were to get it I would pick up some 19' wheels (Jaguar...not aftermarket) HID lamps, and a sat nav (I could do a clean factory look-alike job for about 1500)

So...what do you think?

I'll take it if you don't!

I'd prefer BRG, but that is a helluva car.

Good, a coupe. Very sexy car, but I would've taken that 500E you were looking at awhile back first.

13 grand! That's terrible and great at the same time!

Ya...so would I.  But it's fairly pricey plus someone else ended up looking at it...my dad.

Yeah, you can get an 02 XJR fully optioned with less than 60K miles for $25K or so.  For a car that was around $70K new, that is bad!

What happened to the Renntech 500E?

That is a beautiful car.  Sounds like a great deal - why's it so cheap though?  I had a ride in an XK8 a few years ago, and was very impressed.  That is a great colour too.

You should leave it as it is.  Those wheels look great.  Don't wanna look like an XKR 'ricer'!

Well...that's why I'd go with in house wheels.  Jaguar makes some great wheels (I think I would go with 19') that fit the car without being "ricey"

go for it. i feel bad for the guy that bought it new, that is a huge depreciation hit.

please change the wheels if you buy it, those look too bulky.

I've seen them in person before (though it was on a tan cabriolet) and they look nice, I'd just prefer something a little more agressive.  19x9.5 (rear) would do nicely.

Get something with a manual transmission that weighs less!  You already have a nice 7er that does everything the Jag would do, better.

The XKR won't cost you much more.

For an automatic luxury car, Jaguars are great used values.

Eh, not to me.  I think it's too long, fat, heavy, and rounded.  For "only 12 grand" I'd pick up a few old cars/trucks and all my wishes would come true.

Yeah, but he already has an E38 7er. He doesn't need another luxo-mobile. Besides, his E38 does about everything better, and I think it looks as good as the XK. Both have classic lines. The BMW's powertrain is MUCH better too.

Its a gorgeous car, no doubt.  I've seen those wheels in person, and they look just fine...my only gripe is that the wheels on this particular example are chromed.  Out of place on a Jag, IMO.  I'd also suggest looking for an XKR for not much more, but even still, you'll be getting on hell of a gorgeous car for not much dough.  Go for it!

I prefer brushed too...thats part of the reason I'd be getting new ones.

For that price, the car is an awesome value

Ah, good idea!  The Grey XKR wheels are beautiful if you could get some of those!

Would this be replacing your 7?

If you want to replace your 7, an XJR would be a fetching catch.

No...this would be a weekend/maybe commute to Boston once in a while car.  And for 13k...how can you go wrong.

And I have had my eye on a stunning red 2004 XJR with 20' Sepang wheels and rear entertainment for 35 grand, and it's only got 15 thousand miles on it!  I might trade my 7 for that.  But I have a hard time even thinking about selling my BMW.

Yes, yes.  I know I'm quite the loser for not choosing something with a proper gearbox and a drophead, but I've driven a Z3, Z4, (04?) Miata, 05' Boxter, etc...and for the price (If I could i'd buy the Porsche) I can't find anything that feels as good as the Jag.  It's odd, I know.  But I just love that car.

None of them look as good as the Jag, I can tell you that.

You're a cruiser guy, I can understand that.  So, you're like 63, right?  You're at the winding down part of your life.  The kids have moved out, the wife has kicked off, the dog has run away, and your neighbors are spreading rumors about you.

well...I'm 20, just going to college.  The friends are out drinking while im working.  The girlfriend left because I make her "skin crawl" the dog got hit by a car, and my neighbors called the cops on me because I was playing my music too loud.

So I'm really in need of a stiff drink and a Zonda F...but I figure an XK8 will do me good enough.

It's a damn shame, really.  They are so beautiful...and they are near worthless.

Jaguar has improved ten-fold over the past 10 years.  The new XJ and XK are wonderful automobiles.  I wish the buying public would take note.

Get the Jag, you know you want it! Who cares if the Z4 or Boxter is a better sports car. In a street car, the Jag can go just as fast, but looks better doing it. If you want to keep the sedan, then another sedan would be nearly worthless, so go for the coupe.

Thats the thing.  I've driven the Z3, 4, and boxter.  I would love to own a boxter, but I cannot afford one.  The Jag is such a great cruiser.  It has plenty of power, handles well enough, and is just too sexy for words.
