That's a very nice looking, expensive Volkswagen.
Did you buy it new or used?

Used. MSRP for the truck was $76,000 with all the options... I paid $39,000 including taxes out the door. 53,000 kilometres. 1.5 years on the road. Not bad at all.
That's Canadian dollars, Teuton.

Looks nice
Touareg, nice car. It's a fine SUV, and has an interior that would look great in a US$75,000 car. It wouldn't have been my first choice for a vehicle, but would be up there for an SUV.
Congrats.

Damnit...methinks the V8 in the A8.
Yeah, I think theyre basically the same V8, but the Touareg has 310, and the A8 has (had) 335. I think the Audi versions of the 4.2 now have 350 hp.
Yeah, it now has direct injection. I think the Touareg will be getting the same engine for its facelift.
Yeah, and I hope you get a BMW E46 instead of a CL-S for your next car.
Only if I can stretch to a 325ci, otherwise I would rather have an E36 but that is getting a bit older than I would like. The E46 sedan just doesn't look right to me. Time will tell.

'll keep it simple..
1. I don't believe for two seconds that any 17 year old has saved up nearly $40k on his own no matter how much he's making per hour. I also don't believe that any 17 year old is making $40 an hour giving piano lessons (this really is funny stuff you're making up )
2. I also don't believe that any 17 year old, even if they actually had saved up nearly $40k, would all the sudden blow it all on a monumentally stupid purchase like this. In a year and a half it's value dropped in HALF, what's it gonna do in the next year and a half??? Incredibly stupid decision on your part if you in fact made it.
3. Nobody is smart/disciplined enough to save up FOURTY THOUSAND DOLLARS in two years only to blow it on such a stupid waste of money. Yes it's a waste of money, because even your hypothetical $40k savings would be earning interest in a bank account, and $40k today will be more like $41k or whatever next year. Your $40k car today will be $20k a year and a half from now. NOBODY is that stupid, except for s
4. I believe that your parents either purchased this vehicle entirely for themselves(most likely, 90%+ chance), or purchased it for you with a very VERY modest down payment from you and everybody on the block as co-signer.
5. You're fuckin' full of shit
6. edit: or it's your dad's new company vehicle
edit2: Explain to me why on earth a 17 year old kid would buy a fucking VW Toureggnog if he really had $40k saved up? You don't have any better taste or sense than that? $40k in cash to spend on a car and you buy a fuckin' TOUREGGNOG?? What the hell man?
Toureggnogs, Intrepids, Camrys, these are all cars that your parents would be buying/leasing/company cars, not cars that a 17 year old would be buying. Your stories are 100% pure bull fucking shit
Ah well to each his own :P

The guy has a point, it is a rather stupid thing to do. I don't know if he actually did it or not, but I sure hope that his parents aren't going to let him waste money like this and then pay for all of his college. Besides, if I had $30k I'd sure buy something a lot more cool than that.

Yeah, but to each his own. The Touareg's his definition of cool (), and if he wants it, why should we care?

Congrats on the ride (and thanks for helping the German economy). :ohyeah:
My only gripe, why the hell did you guys choose a gas-guzzling V8? The V10 TDI is so much better.
What the? I am doing somehting wrong...
Congrats on that ride! And you wanted to join the carnuts without money club? shhhh...
Oh man, I've just written the posts on that other forum...
They are only jealous. Although I must admit I would have spent that money on other things (just like I do with my WAY less money) and not a car, I think this is your thing. If you love Touaregs, fine. You saved the money, you are the one who decidedes how to spend it. I guss you are one of probably less than 100 17 years old all around the world who drive such a damn fine car that wasn't sponsored by daddy. Be proud of yourself and have a lot of fun driving that damn fine car! :ohyeah:
Only do me one favour: Please post some pictures of this nice car with 20 inch rims, when you have them on it, okay? :ohyeah:
That other forum is full of hicks who only brag about 20 year old RX-7s and 80s GM boats. I don't give a shit waht they think anymore, and am going to stop frequenting it.
Maksx... please... don't start. :banghead:
Anyway the reason for the V8 is that I don't want to drive around to a million gas stations looking for who has diesel and who doesn't. Also, in Ontario, the cheapest V10TDI is $69,000 and it's a 2004.
Congrats on the Touareg.
You may want to buy the lid for the storage bin over the center stack that was cost cut from the US version. I think it makes all the differnce visually.

Thanks. I'll consider it. I'm also getting the cigarette lighter/flashlight cut in US versions. ;)

what are the insurance premiums for 17 yr-old on a Touareg?
Even if i had $45k in the bank (which i still dont believe you did), I wouldve bought a car for less than $5k, so i'd still have money for insurance, gas, and more importantly, for college.
When you have a lot of money when you're older, this makes sense. Not when you're 17.
Ok...guys. Look, I know some of you have your doubts about wheater or not mommy or daddy bought his car. I know a guy in high school who pulled fifty bucks an hour giving drum and guitar lessons. But he lived in a rich neighborhood. 18 hours a week in lessons? Possible. two hours a day on school days, four hours a day on weekends... kinda crimps your social life but for 30 or 40 bucks an hour, I'd do it to.
Saving up that much really is doable if you're living at home and making good money. I sold computers when I was in high school and I made enough to start my car project and my investment portfolio so that's not hard for me to swallow.
I would
not have blown thirty-nine thousand loonies on
any car and least of all a Towrag but like Raghavan said, to each his own.

Listen. We don't need this turning into a 20 page C&D style flame fest because people feel the need to call other people out because they happen to drive a nice car. I think he was foolish in buying this vehicle at such a young age. I'm sure he needs money for other things, such as college. But guess what, it's his choice. I happened to buy a 740i (a car out of my means) and slaved over payments. IT was foolish, but in my 19 year old balls before brain mindset, I bought it. End of story. If touareg showed no knowledge about his car, or just acted like a complete prick about it, then I could find reason to call him out on it. But if he really is making it up, do we really need to call him a liar? Someone who does that leads a pathetic enough life as is. We don't need to add to it.

My boss drives a V8 model (actually, identical to tourag208's except for color) which I've gotten to put some miles on, don't have too much experience with all the latest offerings in that segment but I think it's a pretty sweet car. "And ifcar. Really, give it up. Who cares if hes lying or not. Its not hurting anyone, and its not creating a bad atmosphere on the forums."
A lie is an insult to one's intelligence, saying "I think I can make stuff up and you're gullible enough to believe it."
The bad atmosphere this causes will end, but it will end with an answer, not by being ignored. Also, CarSPIN has been proudly called a troll-free environment many times, and it's going to stay that way. Liars = trolls.

Why doesn't he just take a picture of the car and have a piece of paper in it saying his user-name?

More to the point, who fucking cares? They're obviously highschool kids, and other than their persistent sniping at each other, which gets a little annoying from time to time, they really aren't hurting anyone. I can't decide what's more ridiculous and immature, that or engaging on an adult engaging on a crusade to find the 'ultimate truth'. Thats simple enough to settle.
"Mak, touareg. If you send me one more PM or fight one more time I'm banning both of your punk asses"
Simple, really.
I don't want to ban them. I sympathize with whichever one is telling the truth.

Well saying that you will ban them will shut them up!
I think this all stems from ifcar's personal life. I got this PM from him:
Quote
I was married once, 5 years ago, before I became the shell of a man that I am today. Then I found out she used to be my next-door neighbor, Herb...before the change. Maybe now you can understand why I hate liars. Herb, I mean Harriet, moved back out. But she, I mean he, her-him, is still living next door. I haven't been the same since.
I really see his point now. Someone must pay for this.
^And people say engineers are dull.

Only the people that don't know me.
well i could simply go ahead and put my username on a piece of paper and then take a pic of it on my caravan, touareg can so the same is he wishes to, that can settle it.
I don't think anyone doubts the Caravan, but thanks for the offer. ;)

Only if I can stretch to a 325ci, otherwise I would rather have an E36 but that is getting a bit older than I would like. The E46 sedan just doesn't look right to me. Time will tell.
I think I'm the only other person who feels the same way about the E46 sedan, something is wrong proportionally at the C-Pillar.
325Ci would be reeeeaaaalllllyyy cool. But could you maintain it? Good luck man.
Wow, this thread turned into a shitfest.
You know what this means, right? Carspin trial!
(I call baliff)

Baliff's don't need to spell, they just deliver smackdowns.
Red alert, shields up!
"meet me at 3 o'clock by the flagpole" :mask:
I'm pretty sure there's a reason why Personal Messages are called that. Touareg and Maksx should just shut up IMO. The way I see it there's two possibilities here.
Case 1: Touareg is lying out his ass and Maksx is trying to call him out. If Touareg is a lying son of a bitch I don't really want to know about it. He's a decent kid otherwise and I wouldn't want to see him run out of town on a rail over this. And Maksx you may be right but what the hell is the point of bringing all this before us? You see him all the time - take it up with him outside.
Case 2: Touareg did in fact buy that Towrag and Maksx is just trying to start shit because he has it out for Touareg. In that case Touareg knows who the liar is and he doesn't anything to prove as far as I'm concerned. Again this can be worked out beyond the confines of an open CarSPIN thread.
And IFCAR, please just let it go. Apart from flaming each other neither of these guys are engaged in trollish behavior. I don't like getting lied to either but I don't see any reason to open a full investigation on two teenagers trying to drag you into their little spat.
I'm not responsible for what happens to them in person, but if they're going to bring it here, then the moderators have to, you know, moderate.
This one's done.
