Title: This is what I've been waiting for [Zagato Maserati]
Post by: macchina on April 17, 2007, 07:41:48 AM
They had rumors about it in Forza when the 575GTZ came out.

(Just go to the website, if the picture doesn't load.)

The Maserati GS Zagato follows the Ferrari 575GTZ, unveiled in 2006 at Villa d?Este.

The first images don't show the front end of the car, that should carry some similarities with its 1950's predecessor.

From the official Press Release:
In the most classic traditions of exclusive collections that inspired the creativity of car designers in the '50s and '60s, Paolo Boffi, well-known entrepreneur in the furnishing and luxury design sector, has commissioned from Zagato a customised look for his Maserati GS Spyder.

Zagato proposes a line that evoked the historical Maserati A6 G Zagato of 1954: one of the most beautiful Italian sedans ever built, and nowadays at the top of every collector?s wish list.

The Maserati GS Zagato, like its celebrated ancestor, has all-aluminium bodywork and bears the Trident on the bonnet and the Z on the wing, expressing eternal Italian excellence in its shape and its content.

A winning combination that matches powerful and reliable mechanics, with an elegant and and sports style, both rigorously Made in Italy.

For purists of the compact coup?, afficionados of the Milano-based brand, it is a two-volume, two-seater, hatchback with a streamlined profile and a neat tail.

The wheelbase is 180mm shorter, a spin-off from the Spyder, provides excellent handling and stability on curves, with extraordinary torsional rigidity.

"In homage to the tradition of the gentlemen drivers who asked Zagato to transform the bodywork of their cars, modern collectors choose mechanics at the top level of technical evolution and ?dress? them in tailor-made garments that increase in value as time passes."

This is the mission of a modern automobile atelier: "to create timeless objects that celebrate prestigious models and brands and which, unlike mass produced vehicles, are destined to last for ever."

The Maserati GS Zagato will be on show at the Concours d?Elegance Villa d?Este, to be held in Cernobbio (Italy) 20-22 April 2007.

Maserati's are so much better looking that Ferraris.  Minus the MC12.  The rear 3/4 windows meeting the rear windshield is a nice treatment.

This is the second Zagato I've seen without the double bubble  :nono:

I think the last one I liked was the DB7.

If you look close at the reflection in the roof, you'll see that it does indeed have the double bubble.

Hmm, I see it, sort of...

Is it just the angle, or are they intentionally making the cue more subtle?

Pretty ugly.

Do you just look for reasons to dislike every new car that comes out?

Build anticipation.? It technically hasn't even premiered yet.? I'd like to see the front too, before I comment, but I've been waiting so long to see a picture of that car.? I think that they could have built a silver turd with wheels, and I'd find something to like about it.

Maserati is probably the best overall Italian supercar out their in my humble opinion, unless you just want to race.? Beautiful, elegant, comfortable.? A work of art!? ?:P?

I love the new CTS...
I just think most of the new cars are ugly except for a few cars.
I like the boxy, simple designs of the '80's, that's all.

Curious if you like the 300 then, since it's pretty boxy and squared off?

That is a fugly turd.
I hate the super high beltline. Another design trend i really really hate.
But i'm a picky guy, so do listen to anything car related i say.

It's supposed to look like America cars of the '50s and early '60s, and it does it's job well. the fact that it was a sales success shows that it was the right design at the right time. If it were truly fugly, as you say, then it would have sold like the Aztek.

I like it but it reminds me of the Jaguar concept from a few years ago (RD something i think). The hatchback one. Anyway, looks good but I hope the front end looks like the 8C

The high beltline is a result of trying to emulate earlier , lower slung cars with short greenhouses.

However, in today's environment where safety rules dictate so much of what a car has to look like, the low slung, low hood, pointy nosed classic sports car simply can't be done the way it used to be done.

And this is a pretty car.
