When I was a kid, my dad had a red 280Z that I loved. I always wanted to ride in it wherever we went. He had to get rid of it because it was a 2-seater and couldn't seat him, my mom, and me. I trace my love of Nissans and manual transmissions back to this car.
I voted for the new one because I like it, even though I like the old one too.
240Z for me if it's rust free. I'll even take a 260Z if I couldn't find a 240.
New one.
Old one with a 5.0L conversion.

:wtf:
My respect for you has slightly dropped.
This is a little tough... I'm going to go with the original.
I like the new one and the VQ is one hell of an engine but I cringe every time I see one from the rear. It's a nice design at the front and the side profile is alright but it's got a dreadfully ugly arse.
240Z for me please.

240Z with an N1 engine. :praise:
I'll take the old one, thank you. The new one is boring.
As much as I absolutely love my 350, I picked the 240Z. They're just so gorgeous.

What's wrong with that?? It would kick ass.
I know a guy who put a Chevy small block in his 280 and I just didn't like the cars personality after that. To each his own but if I wanted an American V8 powered car I would buy a Corvette or Camaro. I like the old Datsun motors.
Well this has to be the easiest one yet. S30, without a goddamned doubt. Ford 302 for even more appeal....
S30 without a doubt. :ohyeah:
Guess which one I picked. ;) Anyway, here are some pros and cons for you:
350Z:
-Quieter
-More comfortable
-More powerful
-Safer
-Better brakes
-More grip
-Less rusty
-Doesn't suck in exhaust fumes
-Better interior
-Good aerodynamics (the S30 is AWFUL in that respect)
-The VQ-series V6 sounds great!
S30:
-Lighter
-More involving to drive
-Better looking
-Easier to work on
-Cheaper to run, cheaper to buy, cheaper to mod
-The L-series straight six also sounds great!
I picked the new one, although I love the old one and its gorgeous. The new one is very attractive in coupe form, but in convertible form it is horribly ugly from behind, almosty like someone added a hump on the trunk.

Yeah cause the Ford engines installed in the Cobra ruined those cars.
240/60/80. Thank goodness you didn't say 280ZX, or I'd have gotten upset.
That being said, a 280ZX wouldn't be all bad. I might enjoy it, actually. Only the early '79-'80 ones, mind.

Why? The 1979-1981 models are all pretty much the same. The 1982-1983 cars got body colored bumpers.

I don't want to agree with that, but I kinda do.
Everybody and their mom has a Chevy V8. It's more fun to kick some ass with a Nissan engine rather than a Chevy engine wrapped in a Nissan skin. I feel like I'm part of team Nissan, sometimes. :P
That's true. I have a Chevy V8. And I just got my mom one for Mother's Day.

Old one for sure.

I prefer the smaller chrome/black bumpers that we got on the '79-'80s, instead of the later models.

No I love them. But they use the motor that was supposed to be put in them. I'm just not a fan of putting V8's into RX-7's, Z cars or others like them. I'm a person that enjoys getting the most out of the motor the car came with. Throwing more and bigger at stuff isn't always a way to make it better. But to each his own.

What about me using the '81 280ZX Turbo's engine in my Z? What if I used a Nissan VG30 from a 300ZX? Or a Nissan VH45DE 4.5L V8?
Horsepower is underrated by enthusiasts, IMO.

The Ford V8 was not meant to be in the Cobra. The Ace (Cobra) as built by the manufacturer AC Cars had a Bristol straight 6. It was Carroll Shelby who imported the cars and renamed them Shelby Cobra and modified them to accept the Ford 289 V8. Later he fitted the side oiler Ford 427 V8 to the new chassis that was introduced in 1965.
Everything needs a V-8 in it, even Porsche 914's or Suzuki Samurais!? There's always a way to make it fit, and there's no good reason not to do it.

Ah...perhaps the Australian market is different.
There's probably quite a few JDM Fairlady Zs down under, I'll bet.

I'm not a cobra fan so I'll admit right now that I don't know all that much about it. I still stand behind my other posts.
Thanks for reminding me again, I was a dumb@ss for selling my '77 280Z for a '78 Grand Prix! :partyon:
P.S. I'm having a good time with the smileys tonight!
