Title: This will make you cry (56k warning)
Post by: the Teuton on May 19, 2007, 11:23:38 PM
My friend who formerly had a Supra wanted to get an R33 Skyline.  Then, he figured since the V36 was coming out next year, he wanted to get a project instead, but what he found was an overpriced piece of junk.  Prepare to brace yourself for what may be the most horrific thing you've ever seen.  This car has unrunning since 1996 with the sunroof open ever since.  There's a bird nest in the trunk.  It has 178k mi on it and he told me he laughed at the owner when he wanted $6,000 for it.

Apparently it smells like mold and shit and it's a relic of a better time.

That BMW deserves better. The owner should be shot.

What the fuck is the owner's address? I'm buying a gun right now.

Well, is he planning on restoring it?  If he is, that's an awesome, awesome project, and who cares about the previous owner.

He passed on it.  He's currently building a 400+ hp E30 325e/is hybrid.  The car is in Jersey and I can get the address if you really care.

I'd love to pick something like that up, but I just don't have anywhere to put it.   :(  That would make a great project for someone who wanted it, though.

That's almost as bad as the '67 Camaro that my father's uncle decided to let rot in a barn as a home to racoons and rodents.

He'd have to rip the whole car apart and rebuild everything.  That's a bit excessive.

Who the hell gets a car like that and doesn't drive it for 10+ years???

I had a friend with a true '64 1/2 Mustang Convertible (yea it was only the I6, but still) that literally was allowed to rot away.  Absolutely nothing was salvageable when it was taken away.

This guy should be castrated. Ro51092, tell me when you're going to his place, we'll take him down together.

Oh wow...actually, if the guy would get rid of it for maybe $1000 it might be a good project car...but there is probably a lot wrong with it at this point.  The carpet and seats would probably all need to be replaced, the whole thing stripped down to bare metal to find and patch all of the rust, repaint, get the engine up and running, and hope that nothing electrical sh!t the bed after being exposed for that long...

I'll give him $300.  $350 if he pays for the tow to my house.  You need to pull those seats and carpets and power wash them all, fully inspect for rust, strip and repaint the exterior, and that's assuming the mechanicals are all straight, which I bet they aren't.  Electrics are probably a fucking nightmare, and I wouldn't sit in that car without a hazmat suit.

What a fucking awesome perfect race car project! Strip out all the interior and weld in a rollcage.
I'd pay $1000 for it, but not a penny more.

If I had the time, money, and tools, I would buy it, strip the interior, swap in a stock E30 interior and some Recaros, pull the motor+ tranny and clean them and the engine bay, change all the necessary suspension bits and put it all back together. Restoring that car would basically involve getting another E30 and swapping over everything... but good God, for the original ///M experience IMO it would be worth it!!!

Hmmmm I didn't know the E30 M3 had a forward hinging hood.  Was that an M3 feature or was it on all E30's?

I'd strip the interior and make it a racecar.

To the best of my knowledge, all E30s were that way.

Most older BMWs are like that.  My E34 is.  I believe it changed with the E36 and E39.

Sporty, you live in NY, right?  My friend lives 10 minutes away from NYC, so the car isn't that far away from you.  If you want to see the car in person...

:P

oh, I'd say it's worth at least $3500 for all the parts it has that might still be good, but yeah, an overpriced project. But man, it would make a killer race car!

Who the hell lets an original E30 M3 rot like that?  Count me in on the lynch mob to get him.  String 'em up and hang 'em high!
