We've had a 2nd gen (Sable) and 2 4th gens, but I can only imagine the 5th will be the best.

5th of course. But, out of the real Tauruses, the 2nd.

5th by a mile, even though it's not really a Taurus.

The 5th generation.  We had a 4th gen and it was a really nice family car.

Of course it is. The 2005 Five Hundred is a Taurus by another name, and this is the facelifted Five Hundred.

Real Tauruses?

I just can't get used to the idea of the Five Hundred as a Taurus.

They just put the Taurus name on another car....not quite the same IMO.

More accurately, they put the Five Hundred name on a Taurus, and then changed their minds.

I don't care about Taurii, but the fifth strikes my attention.

SHO nuff, the 2nd gen was awesome! Why'd they muss it up with that stupid V8 in the 3rd generation?

I chose #5. Oddly, it felt sort of like plaving pin-the-tale-on-the-donkey as a child: blindfolded and dizzy; the choice nothing more than a wild guess.

I thought the Taurus was replaced by two cars, the Fusion and 500, which we slightly smaller/bigger respectively?

The Fusion and Five Hundred essentially match up to the Ford lineup through most of the Taurus's life (89-99): Tempo and Taurus, then Contour and Taurus. The Five Hundred was the more direct successor to the Taurus (though many people do just say that both replaced it) and now it uses the Taurus name.

I'd vote for the 5th if it didn't have that stupid three bar grille. So 2nd it is.

You could just as easily claim they put the Taurus name on a Grenada.

I just can't get used to the idea of the Five Hundred as a Taurus.

They sold it for about two years, and IMO the FH should have been called the Taurus in the first place and might have been if it wasn't for the fact that the accountants didn't want to kill off the old Taurus immediately and spoil potential fleet sales.

And it's funny, because unintentionlly or not, the "new" Taurus has a lot of the same lines as the original. I think it's fine, and I'll eat my hat if the restyled Taurus doesn't sell at least 25-50% more copies this year than the FH did last year with just the new name, engine and facelift. It's a good car for the money.
