The cameras go off if you're more than 12 over the limit. I'm generally within 10, but slipped over on this downhill stretch.

Pretty reasonable, though. The University of Maryland parking tickets are nearly twice that.

I'm so glad we don't have speed cameras around my area.

$40.00 for 20 km/h over the limit?! Sheeeeeeee-it, that's nothing.

Getting caught by a machine sucks. There's no sport to it. It's just so....bureaucratic.

Ah, well, I've had worse parking tickets and since you're not getting points and insurance prizes, no harm or foul except for the $40 you're out.

Yeah, not a problem at all. And the Mazda folks were used to it -- they have a whole form letter for journalists who speed in their cars.

Iffy just lost his speeding ticket virginity.

It's short, but here's the highlight:

There's definitely no sport to getting caught by a machine.

If there were points, I would be much more concerned. That would be thousands of dollars instead of $40.

Iffy buys his bitches thousand-dollar bottles of Cristal every weekend. $40 is nothing.

Camera fines are typically pretty low for the same reason they don't carry no points:  there's no way to prove exactly who was driving the car at the time.  They can only target the registered owner of the vehicle.

The last one I mentioned was a camera fine:rage:  NO points off my license, but some big bucks. Now when I get pulled over... ouch.

For only 10 km over? I love kilometer speed systems, though. When I was in Ireland this summer I was speeding 140 km/h in a 100 km/h. It felt like I was doing way more than like 30 mph over the limit! Ireland has some awesome highways for speeding, by the way! Wide-open and modern, ZERO traffic enforcement (didn't see one radar trap the whole time I was there) and lane discipline is strictly adhered to. When I would come flying up in the right lane behind someone, they'd immediate move left, although most people just kept left anyway. What a pleasure to drive there!

One of the highways I drove on had literally been opened to motorists the day before I drove it. Nobody was on it at all.

That drive sounds like heaven, Dan.

What the hell? 10km/h over?

I got a ticket for 15 km/h over (clocked higher, but cop wrote the ticket for that) and it was ~$50 + court fees, to a total sum of $62 I think.

Untrue. Some of the systems are set up to take the driver's picture as well, and when the ticket is mailed to the registered owner, the owner can identify the driver and have the ticket transferred to him or her.
