Wimmer kept his word. Here are the pics!

Drove out to the owner's place and he took me for a ride in this beauty to an ideal location. Despite the large size of the car, the interior doesn't feel as roomy as a lot of modern cars. Leg space was surprisingly short (probably due to the non-adjustable bench seats) and my buzz cut hair sometimes came into contact with the roof (although I am 6'4"). On the plus side, the ride was really soft and bouncy - a typical comfortable cruiser - and the bench seats were really comfortable. I don't think traveling long distances in this car is a problem at all in terms of overall comfort (and if you're smaller than me). There was a 240-hp 5.4-l V8 upfront and it was always blubbering when the owner pressed the accelerator. A nice sound. Acceleration was leisurely.

I wanted to take more shots, but the guy had a wife who wanted him back at a certain time, so I missed out on a lot of the details this car has to offer. But we agreed to meet up again and perhaps next time he'll have more time to spare. There are so many details this car has it's incredible starting with the rocket on the hood, the mirrors, the "Oldsmobile" typeface, the italic "88" logos on the side, the rims, the rear antenna(s) and of course the interior. I could spend a whole friggin year photographing this thing. Oh, and he promised to show me the engine to next time!

Enjoy!

They are all really good.  The bottom one is slightly off-center and it's bugging me though.

I know. It was difficult to make out the exact center of the car in the grass field at that time because the sunlight was off to my right blinding me. I'll meet up again with the guy and then I want to focus more on the little details of this car.  :ohyeah:

ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

So the owner of this car invited me this Sunday to come along with him to another classic car show.

This is it: http://www.pascal-kapp.de/neu/download/10Seen_Classic_Rallye_flyer_140710.pdf

He also showed my photos of his Oldsmobile to his American Car Club and the guys are apparently interested in having their machines photographed by me. I hope I am not bragging but damn I am so happy right now. Life is good!  :praise:

I had to reduce the quality a bit because the degraded TIFF to JPEG file was still 10 MB in size.

Fantastic photography. Damn. Also, I have a new desktop background from this thread.

How do you scout your locations?

Mostly by chance. But I do try to seek out local locations that would be great for car shoots. I keep a small notebook in my car at all times and write down the address of a particular place I passed that might be useful. There's just a few locations in Munich where one can photograph cars without the cops bothering you. But using the same location over and over again for different cars gets boring real quickly (hence I am trying to distance myself from that factory warehouse I shot the Dodge Viper/Lamborghini Urraco/Porsche 911 in).

I also encourage owners to look for suitable locations in their region as they know their region better than me.  ;)

Not sure I'd call 60s-era American cars "boxy".  Not as rounded as the cars from the late 30s through the 50s, but not really boxy either.  The boxy car era really started in the 70s when every car looked like it was designed by a guy with a ruler, a pen and some graph paper.
