Paris through a Nazi's lens...
« on: September 22, 2013, 10:42:12 pm »
Fashionable young women pose for the camera and commuters mix with Nazi soldiers on the bustling Paris streets.

The famous roads of the French capital are adorned with the Swastikas of the German regime but Parisians appear jubilant.

At first glance, these photographs appear to show a Paris that flourished under four years of Nazi occupation during the Second World War.

Interesting photos. I'm impressed with the sharpness and general quality of some of them.

The car with the natural gas tanks put on the roof aftermarket looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

People generally look happy in propaganda photos. These kids look thrilled. All smiles!

Ah, Nazi occupied Paris.  Heaven with a French accent.

Interesting pictures but clearly a distortion of reality.

The occupation was, and still is, a very sore subject. They hated the Germans... &, in their humiliation, hated the British & Americans only slightly less. Lots of psychology & long-standing rivalries woven in to it all.

I know the French aren't fans of the British, but I'm pretty sure that they are closet fans of the US, as much as they criticize it.

I watched a 'World War I in Color' series. They'd done a decent job of cleaning up the old films of trench warfare, the Russian Revolution etc. & colorizing them. Purists would hate it, but it was very effective IMO.
