My Trips and Vacations
« on: April 28, 2014, 12:26:51 pm »
I'm just going to use my own thread for this from now on.  To start I'll be posting photos from my last 3 or four trips/mini vacations etc.  Some photos are going to look under/over-saturated depending on whether or not I used an iMac for editing.

Las Vegas/Colorado River rafting trip.

NYC for the auto show.  I took no photos at the show

Also forgot my tripod AGAIN.  Wish I had it for this trip considering most photos were taken at night.

I edit them using a free online editor because PS and GIMP are too complicated XD

Impressive. You have a good eye for photos - something most people lack yet think they're awesome photographers because they have a DSLR and filters.

PS and GIMP are pretty easy. I've learned most of the features just from googling. A class would be good to be introduced to the full capability of the program, however.

Those are awesome photos. And I know it's definitely skill, because I have the same camera + a lot more lenses, and my stuff comes out like shit in comparison.

What mode do you usually shoot in? Full manual?

With the 50mm it's mostly manual, but when I use the kit lens I either use scene selection or intelligent auto.  But I alsways fine tune the focus eve with auto focus on.

With the 50mm it's all manual including focus, unless I'm in a hurry.

They are indeed great.

Where most people (start to) go wrong is that they don't compose the picture correctly........ technology will correct a lot of technique flaws, but if the pic is ill-conceived in the first place, no amount of technology (short of brutal editing/trimming etc) is going to make it any better.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

It's not just the camera. I've got the same setup, same lenses (plus a view), and my shit doesn't come out nearly as well.

Lol. I've been too lazy to shoot in RAW and edit everything. I hope when I do that, I'll get some photos close to this level.
