It's either in Canada or the Gulf. I don't think there's anywhere else in the continental where the coastline is oriented east to west like that.

Easy. Manitoulin Island, Lake Huron. Not only is it the largest freshwater island in the world, it actually has an island in a pond, on an island in a lake, which is on Manitoulin Island, which itself is on a lake.
