Where is the Tahoe/Suburban? Did no one nominate it?

I'm going to buy a tube radio so we can huddle round it and, by the light of a single candle, listen to President Obama's fireside chats.

Nope.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

Holy Crap.  I didn't think the Expedition had a chance in this poll.

The Expedition is a highly competitive large SUV, and the Escalade and Enclave are overpriced versions of other vehicles. I'm not surprised.

I'd get an Escalade, but only if my "dealer" business picks up.  :pullover:

boo ford.

(sorry, had to do it.)

come to think of it, none of these is worth buying. your gas will cost you more than your car in like.... one year.

TBR

Try around $3000 for the average driver.

Try around $3000 for the average driver.

That's a little conservative, I think.

I calculated my gas cost for next year (assuming an average of $3.25 a gallon and an average of 26mpg, my current lifetime average) at $3,125.

If someone drove the same miles as I do/will (a conservative 25,000 miles), and uses the same grade fuel, and has a car that averages 18mpg instead, you've got a cost of $4,513.89.

Although, based on a more reasonable 15,000 mile year (although with a lower average MPG, let's say 15), you still push $3,250 on the same average fuel cost.

$3,000 would be pretty accurate for someone who drives only 12,000 miles per year, if we're liberal with the MPG.

You pay 3.25 for gas!? It's 2.59 for regular here.

It's $3.29 for regular here. And 25k miles is really high. The Accord averages about 12k a year.

TBR

15k a year (average, though less than I drive) and $3.00/gallon.

Don't most of these higher end SUVs run on premium?  I was assuming a $3.25 average for premium over the next 12 months, even though they're down quite a bit right now (I just paid $2.93 for 93 octane, although on the same day at home it was $3.17).  I don't expect these low prices to stay the trend.

I'm fairly self centered, so I based on my commute, extrapolated for 50 weeks, without moving from my home.  And it's also kind conservative.  26,000 is a more accurate estimate, assuming that the car only ever goes from my house to work.

15,000 miles is what the average American drives, it is rather ridiculous to be talking about how much people who buy these vehicles spend on gas and then turn around and use a very much above average number for miles per year just because someone who will never buy one drives that much. The Expedition and probably the Enclave as well use regular.

Jesus, man, I used 25K as a starting point and then rolled back.  I put a 15K miles number in there too.

Damn.

And using a too high fuel price you got pretty much what I said (around $3k), or nowhere near the cost of these vehicles.

I never said it would equal the cost of the car, and I think 3.25 is a reasonable estimation of the average going into next summer.

It would have to be a year round estimate, not just a summer estimate (and, I for one, probably drive more in the fall, winter, and spring).

Also, that was my original point, that cost of fuel really won't be that significant in comparision to the payments you would have to make on such a beast.

Going into next summer, meaning I took the projected "4.00" a gallon gas and averaged down.  God damnit, next time I do some calculations, I'm going to fucking keep them to myself.

Gas barely broke $3.00 around here throughout the summer. :praise:

CJ

Same here.  The highest it got here was $3.29 for premium.
