I got myself a new (to me) car.  It's not what any of you expect though.  I bought a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT with 125,000 kms on it for $4500.  It's still really tight and runs real nice.  When we were on holidays we decided that my wife would stay home and be a mom for the next few years, so it means tightening our belts a little.  Selling the truck and buying a car that gets good mileage were tops on the list.  I bought it in Edmonton and I hauled it back to Calgary today.  I had one of these back in 1999 through 2001 and even though they aren't what I would call "great cars", they are a lot of fun and if looked after, they are bullet proof.  The mileage is great too.  My monthly gas bill should drop from $450-480 a month to $150 a month or so.  This way I also don't have a car payment at all since I paid cash for it.  My cost of owning a car just dropped from $950 a month to $150 a month.  I don't care if any of you don't like it.....I do. :tounge:

Here are a couple pics of it on the trailer and I'll get better ones tomorrow:

Good god, why did you spend $4500 on a J-body?

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

He's saving $800/month. After six months, he's basically paid for it.

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Maybe you should read my post and then answer your own question.

I'm sorry.  Glad you like it, but you can keep it.

Canadian money.
It's also in great shape.  It's the tightest and cleanest Sunfire I found.  Most 2000 Sunfire GT's are still going for $7000 or so.  I count myself lucky to have gotten it for that price.

Does this mean no Mazda6/Magnum?
That's exactly what it means.  We can't afford it with my wife staying home.  You gotta make sacrifices to do what's best for your kid(s).

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

I do have to ask, Hemi, what did you really need a truck like that for?

Nice! 2.4 with the 5 speed is a great combo! :ohyeah:

My brother had a 1998 black sedan. His friends loved his car because it could go uphill so easily. Was real nice basic transportation.

I very much respect your decision, Hemi. You've got your priorities in order. Good stuff!

Best of luck with the new car. :praise:

So does the wife retain a decent set of wheels for use as the kiddiemobile?

I've posted a few pics of the loads I've carried with my truck.  After the landscaping is finished in my yard (next week), I will have no use for a truck anymore.  For the last 2 years I've used it quite a bit for 2000+ lbs loads.

congrats?
Yes, you can congratulate me.  It's a fun little car.  You should try it.  It's not a "great car", but it's fun, reliable, stingy on gas, and is the biggest reason my wife can stay home to be a mom.  Congratulations are in order. :praise:

Raghavan

Awesome! Manual transmission > automatic transmission, anyday.
Congrats on the car, and I hope it lasts you for a long time.

the Teuton

It should be a) reliable, b) cheap as hell, c) economical, d) fun, e) quick for an economy car, but the interior build quality would scare the hell out of me.  It's an awesome choice because they depreciate so quickly.  Is it buzzy or actually fairly smooth and quiet?
