Groom lake is where Area 51 is, Nellis Air Force Range, Nevada.

Edwards is correct.  NASA Dryden flight research center on Rodgers Dry Lake, to be exact.  But that's the famous compass rose that helped the original X-series test pilots (Chuck Yeager, Pete Knight etc.) figure out where the hell they were while trying to land rocket planes with no instruments.
