Jet-powered Supercar

Plans for Italian jet-powered supercar, badged MF1, have been revealed. Developed under codename Project 1221, the vehicle is 4WD with a mid-mounted gas turbine for optimum weight distribution. No on sale date given.

What do you think of this?  Power delivery would be quite strange, not to mention the need for different fuel.

It's hard enough to find diesel, I can't imagine how hard it would be to get jet fuel.

It'd probably be more responsive than those bikes and trucks powered by old helicopter turboshafts that take a few seconds to roll out and get going, though I'm not sure how smaller purpose-built turbines are in terms of spool time. Probably more of a curiosity rather than the next Koenigsegg.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

It would run on about anything, like BioDeasil, wich when home made is about $0.70 a gallon. Just because it is called a gas turbine doesn't mean gas only.  :D

I don't think they accelerate too fast. Here's a video of a jet powered 280ZX.

Probably has to "spool up". That would make it impractical for traffic.

Sounded like it had a regular transmisson, because I heard a downshift.

These things would be extremely hard to control....one second your going extremely slow, spooling up, and all of a sudden you just accelerate like crazy (like a plane).

They should just use it like the drag cars, you won't have to worry about tailgaters plus you can shed some wieght underneath with those pesky transmissions and drive shafts and such.

How fast can that thing you posted a picture of go?  I know that at the Bonnevile salt flats things like that routinely go to 400 mph.

They aren't that fast on the track, a regular funny car will blow them away.  They are more of a novelty and track entertainment than drag racers.

The fastest Jet Car on the flats ran 763 mph or Mach 1.02.
