It's too far gone for a home restoration. That's a big job for a professional restoration outfit.

Looks a bit rough.  Needs a garage and a lot of patience plus skills.

Nice. I'd buy it. Silver Steak 8, inline flathead. Almost bought one of these from an old black gentleman in Kentucky one time. Wish I had it now.

Is it really a straight 8, for sure? Dammit Bobby. Now I realllllly want it.

Bullshit.

Run it, as is.

Yeah, doesn't take much to get old cars running just fine. They're simple. Only issue would be parts availability, but even then it's usually not hard to substitute something.

A surviving straight 8 must be really rare and the idea of a flat head is really appealing.

My friend had a '51 Buick straight 8 and I swear it was a flat head, though Buicks of the time had overhead straight 8s.  Might've been a Canadian thing.  He didn't have a license so I drove it all the time.  Lovely old beast and ran like a train.

If I had a garage to put it in, I'd find $2000.

Just get a car cover for it for the time being.  It'll keep.

But I don't even have a flat spot on my property to park it

Get rid of one of those junky pickups.  If you do some maintenance/restoration on a car like the old 'turtle back' Pontiac, it's only going to increase in value.  Nobody's going to pay for junky old trucks; unless they're classics.

Money helps, you'll need parts and stuff.  Sell 2 of the trucks.

I'm not trying to unduly influence you, but that old Pontiac is a treasure.

Buicks always had OHV heads; they invented them.

I know, I've looked for the possibility that in some models in some countries they used the Pontiac flat head because I'm sure that the engine in this '51 Buick was a flat head.  I can, practically, still see it; we had the hood up/off often enough.  Strange hood latches on it as well.  You could open it up from either side as each side had some sort of hinged latch.  If you unlatched both sides, you could lift it right off.  We were driving in a snow storm out in the countryside one night with the wind howling and the hood blew right off and across a field.

You definitely remember the hood correctly, at least. ;)

I also remember that the damn thing constantly flooded when starting; especially in cold weather.  The starter button was on the floor board underneath the gas pedal and you had to press the gas pedal to the floor to start it.  If it didn't fire the first time, the combustion chambers were full of raw gas.  Unstoppable once you got it going though.

Look what I found resting all alone in Sedona, AZ. The classic '88 Mazda 929.

It looks to be in amazing shape.

Me too. The first gen 929 was a good car, but forgettably bland.

I liked the last gen 929 a good bit. The rear seat head room and truck are laughable however.
And yes, all 929's are RWD.

Yes. Seen several. It was a nice sedan as well if not boring.

The 929 was by far my favorite car. It had a great blend of comfort and performance. It's been so long since I've driven one (2006) that it is difficult to compare it to the Nissan. They are both 3 liter V6s. The Maxima was FWD and the 929 was RWD. The Mazda was a bit more powerful and a little quicker (though I am not sure if I have stats to back that up). The Mazda also had a "swing" feature that had the vents oscillate from side to side to comfort both passengers. Mine also had heated seats and a sunroof, but by the time I got it, the leather was destroyed.
