Mrs. Trep's New Wheels

Some of you may know my girlfriend got a new car... a 2002 Honda Civic LX sedan

We picked it up this morning and I drove it for about ~30-35km and here are some impressions:

It feels very light, and it handles very well. Compared to the Corolla, it feels a lot more composed and tighter in turns, with a bit less body roll. It also feels much peppier than the Corolla, and has more steering feedback.

It has the usual remote keyless entry, power windows and stuff, and also has a remote starter, a rear spoiler, and gold emblems (which look classy on a black car IMO.

I forgot to grab pics until the last minute so I grabbed some in the school parking lot for curious minds like Ro and Rags.

I never understood why some people want gold emblems.

The look super tacky, in my opinion.  Our GS300 had gold emblems, and even as a kid I didn't like them; although on a white car they weren't horrible.

 My car has gold emblems, but it's a white car so it looks okay. Both the gold camries had/have silver emblems. Gold on Gold looks horrible. So does gold on black.
As for the Civic, that's a decent little car. Makes sense it handles/drives better than a much older Corolla, though. It should also have about ten more horsepower or so. For that matter though, the only Corolla I can stand is the newest one, and it wouldn't be my choice as a daily driver.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

Gold emblems looks strange on anything but a black car.

I think they stand out too much on a black car.

Ahhh, a Honda with gold badges. Not cheezy at all.

Pancor

I don't mind gold emblems on a luxury car, but having them on an economy cars seems strange.

I'll repeat that they look fine on some white cars. Mine has gold pinstriping and gold emblems, and it doesn't look that strange.

She should take them off and sell them on eBay.

I personally don't think gold and white jive all that well.  They don't necessarily clash, but the white can almost wash out the gold.

No, they look stupid on anything except a '57 Bel Air or a '55 Cadillac Fleetwood; and those only get a pass because they're old.

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Yeah, I wouldn't say 'better'. Perhaps, 'classier'.

Just came back from a night out in the new car. The back seat sure isn't as roomy as the Trep. I suppose the Civic will not be used on dates much often. :nono:

I've had the misfortune of riding in the back of one of those gen. Civics once.

It's not something I'd like to repeat.

But then again the one I was in had plebian silver badges, so, you know, that's probably why it wasn't comfortable back there.

Secret Chimp

My girlfriend has more or less the same car. The shocks are a little too stiff for what it is (if it were an Si I wouldn't complain) and it's only a little quieter than my 5-years-older Accord, but I wouldn't mind having one.

I was @ a carwash convention in Las Vegas and one of the booths at the show was a gold-plating display. They showed everyone how they did the coating, and then they coated quarters for anyone who wanted them. I thought it was nifty, and I think on cars it's a nice, understated bit of detailing. A bit pointless, but whatever. Looks better on some than others.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

I've driven an EX of that generation and really liked it. The ergonomics were spot-on, the seats felt right and the shifter was AWESOME. Too bad Mrs. Trep bought an AT. MT seems to make a big difference for my enjoyment of cars with lil' engines.

Gold is way too fussy on most cars because it clashes with the rest of the "surface excitement". But it looks pretty good when it stands alone on big slabs of otherwise unadorned sheet metal. The best use of gold badging I've seen was on a black fifth-gen Prelude driven by a faculty member of my college. It looked awesome!

Miatas with gold badging look like crap. :rage: Somehow, the gold makes them look even more delicate and flimsy.

Ah! Gold emblems! Horrible, horrible, horrible decision on the original owner.

I don't like gold emblems, but I never thought it was such a big deal before.  I should get a gold VW emblem for my Passat and blast Soulja Boy just to piss everyone off.  Hehe.
