Looks good proportionally.  I'm sure the rear head-room will take a bit of a hit though, with that roofline.

It's certainly an inoffensive design.  From the front it reminds me a little of the Renault Laguna, and the tail-lights are right off a 5-series Bimmer.  I have to wonder though if GM honestly thinks that such a derivatively styled (albeit tasteful) car is going to succeed where the Vectra has failed.  Why buy this over a 3-series or A4?

I thought the Vectra (Insignia) is mainstream? A mondeo fighter.

CJ

The 3-Series and A4 are mainstream over there.

akuma_supreme

3-series are even available through fleets in most countries.  A fully-loaded Vectra or Mondeo will usually sticker about the same as a middle-grade A4 or 3-Series.

To keep away from the stigma of being a BMW owner, or to keep away from the reputation of crappy electricals (Audi/VW). It seems to simply be a viable competitor, which is all it really needs to be.

I'm hoping you think the BMW stigma is bullshit?

It may be bullshit, but the general public treats it as fact.

Stupid, isn't it. Especially when a certain unnamed member of this forum thinks MB drivers are saints, but BMW drivers are douches. Yeah, great logic there.

You should check out the differences in residuals on a two-year old 3-Series or A4 versus a Vectra or Mondeo.  These cars sticker for 50 large through most of Europe.  If you opt for the Ford or Opel, you'll be losing a whole lot more money for the privilege of avoiding the "stigma" of owning a BMW.  That being said, most customers of either model will have little to no say in what they end-up with since most of these cars are bought through fleets.

The Mondeo and Others are significantly roomier.

Last year I bought a 7 series BMW. I was able to do so due to the absolute stone like depreciation. And I see how people treat BMW owners on a daily basis. I can see that as a compelling reason NOT to buy a BMW, especially new.

In the UK, the 3 series outsells the Mondeo.  Depreciation is likely to be worse on the BMW in a market like that.

:wtf:

So using your logic, the Sebring will have better residuals than an Accord or Camry?

The Mondeo is also a desirable car, which cannot be said for the Chrysler...

It doesn't always work like that, obviously.  The 3 series is positioned differently in the UK than it is in the US.  You can get a 3 series for the same price as a Volkswagen GTI.  The market is likely saturated, unlike the US market.

Market saturation (or lack there of) is only part of the issue.  Demand for the car, and more current versions of it, also play a part.  Thus, Mustangs typically hold their value well (at least in my part of the country), as do Civics and Accords, despite being extremely ubiquitous.  The same is likely the case in the UK for the BMW.
Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.

The E38 7 series was and is a desirable luxury sedan, and considered better looking than its replacement. That didn't stop it from dropping from $75k to $7500 in less than 8 years... ;) The 3 series here is following in its footsteps, too. And it's got even more of a reputation of being owned by poseur pricks.
