My new ignition system on route... hopefully I can install it this weekend

- GMC Yukon ignition coils... rediculously more powerful then the stock RX8 coils and have a built in heatsink so they don't burnout like the shitty RX8 coils
- custom mounting bracket and PnP harness
- MSD 8.2mm 2mm core spark plug wires
- NGK iridium tip spark plugs

Wow, very cool.  I didn't realize that Yukon coils could be crossed over to other applications like that.  I guess it makes sense.  And yeah, crazy voltage with those things.

Looks like the maker of the kit also provides jumper harnesses to switch over seamlessly without rewiring the factory harness.  Very slick.

r0tor

Yea, thankfully the RX8 has an ignition coil triggering system like the one GM uses in the LS2 engine and Yukon V8.  These coils are also pretty big in with the Megasquirt build your own ECU crowd I'm told.  They just have crazy output... I think there is a youtube vid out there comparing them to the GM LS2 coils.

...and since they are OEM GM, the coils are cheap.  Even with the overkill sparkplug wires and the extremely expensive rotary spark plugs and nice bracket and harness, the whole thing costs about $400 which is cheaper the some alternatives for ignition coils alone.  :praise:

I forgot to mention over the weekend i installed a clutch bracket reinforcement package from Mazsport.  Basically the clutch bracket on the RX8 is two flimsy ass piece of sheet metal with 2 spot welds holding it together.  Mine was starting to creak and some people's have actually broken...

so i took the clutch pedal off and installed all these additional supports (in black)... nice smooth and consistant clutch operation now with no squeaks/creaks/pops

lol... its a Cobb AccessPORT ecu flasher

So i can flip between different ecu maps for power, economy, valet (low redline!), and a security map (turns fuel injectors off).  In addition it lowers the threshold for the radiator fans to turn on and increases the amount of oil injected into my engine for reliability.  Power increase is 5-10% which would be 10-20 rwhp.  The tuner I bought mine through also throws in maps for use if I want to go turbo or supercharged!

It can also check CEL's, reset CEL's, disable CEL's, view live data from a bunch of sensors in the car, and get performance numbers like 0-60 and quarter mile times.

That valet mode is an awesome idea, I have a chipped ECU in my car that has VTEC enabled... I might throw a valet map on the VTEC map

HAHAHAHA when will I EVER valet park my car, who am I kidding :wtf:

You wouldn't want anyone to exploit that epic 140hp and 7000rpm redline. :wtf:

no difference from this???

or this??

Yeah, I see the difference between those two.  No kidding.  But the picture you posted earlier...the two bumpers look exactly the same.  After intense studying, I can see that it flows into the front fenders differently, but that's about it.  Maybe it's just the angle.

its the same basic body kit for the 1st gen and 2nd gen RX-8's... they look the same to each other but much better then the OEM

I got my ignition system installed today... new ignition coils, plug wires, and spark plugs

some findings...
- All 4 spark plugs were carboned up badly (about 15k miles on them)
- 3 out of my 4 coils failed the workbook tests and had visual burn marks (they were about 20k miles old)
- My OEM spark plug wires averaged around 2,700 ohms of resistance... the MSD plug wires measure 45-75 ohms!!!!
- install time takes the better part of an anfternoon taking your time and drinking a bit...
- this was the first engine that i installed the spark plugs through the bottom of the front dirver side wheelwell

the old and the new..
