She has an 1996 Civic and it just turned 300,000 miles now she says she's int he market for another car and is probably going to buy another civic.  These people own a huge business and she can have any car she wants and is buying anothe rcivic.  Now that's loyalty.  The only real things wrong with it are the exauhst manifold is bad adn it needs new shocks desperately and a little rust.  Erica's parents believe in driving them til they die.

Her husband is making her get a new one for reliability because this ones getting a little old for an older lady to drive the 2 hours to come see her daughter and grandson.

Kudos to hitting that milestone. See if she can't sell it to someone she likes or pass it down, or something. The car still has some life left.

I'm on my second civic and I'm planning to run this one into the ground as well. I just do the regular maintenance ( which has been relatively pain free on both cars) and I don't do anything overly harsh, and so far have served me well.

A side note : My cousin used to be operations chief for a large chain of trendy restaurants in Canada and faithfully drove a Ford Tempo for AGES. Much in the same situation, he could have literally bought almost any car he wanted, yet stuck with the Tempo because he says it never failed him. People do appreciate that kind of value in a car. Refreshing.

That's the way to do it; Drive 'em 'til they die!

And I thought 250,000 miles on my Volvo was impressive.  Congrats on the milestone!

Manual transmission?
I'd be VERY surprised to hear an auto transmission making it that far without a rebuild.

I just turned 120k miles on my Civic this morning.  It still drives/feels like brand new.  No kidding.

Aside from regular maintenance, the only problem I've had in 120k miles is a wheel bearing that went a year or so ago.  That's it.  I haven't even had a bulb burn out.

Still drives very close to new
Only thing went out on it was a valve switch? like $150 bucks
Rest regular maintenance

Congratulations to her on her millstone. That is the thing about cars if one is reliable you will most likely buy another one and if it is unreliable you are likely to not return to that brand. The new Civics are nice, I wasn't a big fan of the older Civics but I like this one. Also, she should look at the Accord as well.
