Because they just suck compared to the competition. The 3er owns it, the A4 owns it, and the TSX probably does too.

You haven't driven one. No, the C-Class does not suck. It may not be as "sporty" as the 3-series or A4, but I doubt your sister gives a flying rat's ass about sporty driving feel. I recall you telling a story once about how you took her on a spirited drive in a Tiburon and her saying how you should never drive like that again. It seems a C-Class would be right up her alley.

I agree with Trep. At least try it out.

You're trying to convince me that a C240 4Matic does not suck? Yeah, good one, Trep.

And what does the Tiburon have to do with anything?

I apologize if I missed this in the several pages of comments, but my $0.02 --

Think about future repair costs for this vehicle that will be owned out of warranty. Parts and labor (even from an honest independent mechanic) are expensive for a lot of these German luxury sedans. Check out some manufacturer forums and see what people are spending on these kinds of cars to keep them in running order. For a car with 40,000 miles on it and no warranty I'd probably be looking at some of the less exciting but more sustainable vehicles like the Acura TSX.

There's another reason why we're leaning towards the TSX.

This car is probably going to be bought in around a month.

Same goes for you. You seriously think a W203 was better than an A4 or a 3-series or a TSX? My sympathies. The W203 was the last one of the half-assed C-Classes (thankfully).

'They just suck'.

Yeah, thanks for the informative post explaining why you don't like the C-Class and how it is 'owned' by its competitors.

Why the same question to me?  You asked for suggestions and I gave one, so that is what I am talking about...

Why ask for suggestions if you've already made your mind up?

It's a mediocre car, with mediocre build quality, and the driving experience has been vastly surpassed.

I asked for suggestions, and I responded to yours before you had posted it. Give me a few solid reasons why a W203 is better than a comparable 3er or A4.

You've never even driven one! Have you even sat in one? I haven't heard anything about mediocre build quality (yet). And if it's for your sister, who cares about the driving experience? Certainly not her. You're really limiting yourself by not testing one out. If it's out of your price range, that's understandable, but writing it off because you don't think it's good is just dumb.
Why are you so anti-MB when you have no solid information about the C-Class? It's a nice looking car, and is more powerful with the TSX, which is a dog with the auto.

I have been in one, it's built like shit. The C240 4Matic, which is the one we would be looking at is even more of a dog than the TSX would ever be.

I haven't heard any reviews that say that. Besides the fugly steering wheel it looks pretty nice.
And why does your sister insist on 4WD? It already has all those electronic nannies to keep you out of trouble.

Actually I see where his sister is coming from. People who don't know anything about cars will insist that RWD = :nono: after one flake of snow hits the ground.
