New Porsche 911 Targa SPY PHOTOS
by Brian Potter
edited 07-15-2005

Well, there's not much more to say that hasn't been already said about the excellent new 997 Carrera.  Except this one was spied with a strange roof.  Oh my, now would that be the new Targa top?  Well twist my arm and call me Larry - yes it's the new 911 Carrera Targa being tested somewhere in Germany.  The giveaway is the rear window and the rear corner of the quarter panel glass.  Since the appearance of the new 911 is no longer a secret, Porsche could have been a little more inconspicuous by installing stock silver wheels instead of the obvious black "look at me I'm a testing mule" wheels to catch the eye of the spy photographer.  Oh well, feast your eyes for all of you Targa fans out there.

Is it just me, or does the 997 look massive compared to the earlier air cooled models?

It's sort of like Pontiac with the Grand Am, Grand Prix, and G6 or whatever...they're all pretty much the same except for details and the amount of doors...but they're all the same in my head. ^_^

In the pictures it does, but it looks smaller in person.

I know it does, but it's still slightly longer than the Corvette. It's gotten a little too big, IMHO.

Most cars have.  I mean just look at pics in the magazines with people in the cars.  The people driving look so much smaller compared to the car than they used to.  And another thing that bugs me is when they make really big cars and give it small wheels/tires...makes it way disproportional and that bugs the hell outta me.

I actually prefer the 997 to the 996. But my favorite is still the ever gorgeous 993. Now that was a car that had hips.

It's you.  It's roughly the same size as the 996, and only a little bigger than the 993 and 964.

It may be a tad big, but that's okay because it's a....drum roll, please...GT!

Definitely, as much as I like the 997 it is no match for the 993 or 964.

Yea, it doesnt look that big.  The nose juts out a bit more, and that might create the illusion of a much larger vehicle.

I agree. Long overhangs make a vehicle look rather large.

The 280ZX, for example, is actually fairly compact, but the long overhangs and bumpers make it seem huge.
