A lap around Blackhawk Farms Raceway

280Z Turbo

This weekend I ran my first quick lap at this track. I am used to get slowest time of the day at Solo II autocrosses, so I was suprised as hell when I took home a second place trophy for my class behind a Caterham (with half the weight and at least as much HP).

This is my second autocross lap at the track in my race team's 1981 Mazda RX-7 E-production racecar. It has a street port 12A, Weber downdrafts, widebody kit w/ Goodyear Eagle slicks, and a fucking loud exhaust.

I'm a bit sloppy, but I'm still getting used to the car.

Road racing is so much fun.

That car looks like a blast!

Jealousy ensues. :evildude:

Looked like you turned-in too soon a few times that's was still better than I would have done.

I learned the track in a 1980 Rabbit, so I still have a tendency to early apex.

In all likeliness I would have cooked the clutch before even setting off, so just finishing at all is a huge accomplishment in my eyes!

Yeah, early apex and one of the corners I saw you were going to shift mid corner.   :nono:

Otherwise, looking good.

BTW, is this a time attack event?

Too soon is better than too late.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

actually for the record, the late apex is preferred on a corner leading to a long straight

Taking a corner too slow is prefferable to sliding off the edge.

Good stuff man!

It looks like your car is nicely sorted, too bad it's powered by a weedeater. :tounge:

Too soon is better than too late.

I came really close to figuring that out on my own once.

Not always, I've seen some bad stuff happen when people apex too early as well.  But then again, that's usually the result of people trying to correct their mistakes rather than the actual mistake that caused the incidents.

I've heard good sounding wankels, but for some reason the one in the video sounded a bit like a briggs and stratton.

Nice.
That's a kickass autocross track... because it's actually a track.

The camera is not very good, the video quality isn't great, and it's extremely loud inside the car.

I was wearing ear plugs and a helmet but it was still way too loud.

Ah, that explains it.
