Worst sounding cars?

I really don't like the hollow HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sound of a VQ.

I always liked the exhausts of the more aggressive VQ's though I know they aren't everyone's favorite.

That is very lovely. Some of the criticism I have heard is that it doesn't sound nearly as good from inside the car as out. Guess the exhaust noise is blocked by sound deadening so all you get is intake noise.

Hm, false.

Hm, false.

That's just what I have heard, I haven't had the pleasure of driving one.

giant_mtb

Neither have I, but my brother has that pleasure (a G35), and I've ridden in it many times.  You can hear the exhaust just fine.  Such a sweet, porous, throaty, milky sort of sound.

Raza

The 350Z coupe is pin drop quiet on the inside, and I don't remember the Maxima.  350Zs sound great from the outside though.

That's a GT3 RS with exhaust work.

565 already said the GT3 RS sounds good...

They sound too quiet... I like the rumbly bumblyness of Corvettes and muscle cars better.

Where's the video that Pirate kept spamming of the black Corvette on the dyno?

I also like the high pitched noise of rotaries and superbikes. :praise:

Porsches just sound too dull though.

So then the black corvette that pirate loves to post is stock? It is this video here.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRqvcLrE8Y8
Honestly if you're going to roll your eyes at me don't go back on what you said just a few posts later.

Regardless, what difference does it make if it has aftermarket pipes? It is still the same engine, which is what this debate was originally about. Nobody said anything that the engine had to be stock.

Really? This sounds a lot like my old 2 liter, dual carbed (with three barrels per carb) 911S. And all I did to mine was remove the airbox so the carbs could sing, remove the rev limiter, and run a Bursch exhaust... The older aircooled Porsches sounded pretty good to me.

Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

I hate how cabs sound. By association I'm not too fond of cross plane V8s, though my dad's M45 is fun otherwise around 100MPH

I'm saying I prefer the rumbly sort of sound that Corvette makes. :nutty;

And pretty much any car with some exhaust work can sound good. And 565 was talking about the regular 911, not the GT3 RS, which he already said sounded good stock.

I think I like the sound of rougher engine better (to a point).

To me, a more modern straight six sounds downright generic compared to the burbly L28ET in my car.

Eye of the Tiger

When I removed the airbox on my VStar 650 and installed two pod filters, it was the most god-awful noise. Those were promptly removed, and the original box reinstalled. I liked the straight pipes, though. Really. It was nice to actually be able to hear the motor from inside my helmet, which I can't so much on my EX500, even after I gutted the stock mufflers. :mask:

They're not the loudest cars but they're no where near quiet. I just drove a Cayman S and I would bet it is only marginally, if at all, louder on the inside than a Z. I would say it's just as loud as any car in its class and its definently much louder than any mainstream car.

Disagree completely.  If the Cayman is like my Boxster was, then it's probably fucking loud.  My Box was louder with the top up than down.

My Passat was louder inside compared to the 350 at full throttle.

LOL.

You should hear the 3.9L OHV V6 in my dad's Dakota at 4700 rpm (redline).

Compared to Crosswire's M3, Yoder's 350Z was just mute inside.  It was really weird getting out of the M and riding in the Z.  They're just really quiet, imo, too.

I heard and saw an old whale-tail 911 Turbo go by earlier today. I don't care for the water-cooled ones, but the 1980s air cooled 911s sound great - whirry burble down low and jeezy bejeebus everywhere else.
