Worst sounding cars?

In your opinion, what are some of the worst sounding cars ever made and why?

I would, first and foremost, have to nominate any ported Mazda rotary engine as being one of the worst sounding engines ever made:

Why? It's coarse, buzzy, and about as melodious as a Beastie Boys song.

The worst sounding cars are electric because they make no sound at all.

Don't say that. Electric cars are the future.

The writing is on the wall. The ICE will be obsolete pretty soon.

Damn. I like the braaap, braaap, braaap, of a well ported rotary, like my old RX3 or my early 13B Rx7, and my buddy's IMSA RS RX3 and Formula Libre. that first one sounds like my old car. TYhe second one does, however, sound like crap.

My 1990 Civic that I put a Flowmaster 40 on. People on the street would look around to see who's riding a dirtbike in the middle of the city. It was cool.

They will require an artifical soundtrack connected to the throttle... or switch.. umm, go-pedal, so it pumps F430 sounds throught he stereo system, and an external loudspeaker. The silence of electric vehicles is dangerous, and this is just one solution.

they aren't that quiet. Ever listen to an electric RC car? They simply have a different sound. They are quiet when not moving, but underway, electrics have their own sound.

Electric RC cars have noisey straight cut gear boxes. That kind of unrefined sound will simply not be tolerated by the public or the automotive NVH engineering deparments. Everyone wants to be as quiets as possible, because quiet is luxurious and fancy. You have a point, though. Most gas-powered new cars are nearly silent already, so it won't be much of a change.

I love it when I get to drive our raceteam's E-Prod first gen RX-7, but I still hate the sound and the narrow power band of a rotary. I wear earplugs and a helmet and it's still way too loud.

Last one sounds exactly like a gas power weed whacker

Viper V10 has always sounded terrible. Sounds exactly like a straight six a la Mopar 225.

You're wrong, and what the hell is wrong with a straight six sound?

That sounds stock.

Which means it's pretty slow.

It does and it would be, but I think the two posted links would sound fine under load.

A ported rotary still doesn't sound very good under load, IMO.

Unfortunately I can't find any clips to hear. You're probably right, if I had my pick of RX7s I would just turbo a '85 GSL-SE.

But, in my experience most small displacement engines sound raspy when you're just revving for the fun of it.

GoCougs

I'd also add the Cummins diesel Rams with custom exhaust. Probably the worst ever.

Even Silverado and F-Superduty diesels with custom exhausts sound terrible.

1. It is impossible that a V10 could sound like a straight six

Depends on the exhaust. Most of them are too loud, but every once in a while you'll hear one that's just a bit louder than stock and they sound awesome.

I'm right, and they sound terrible (that is, the 5,000 RPM old-school Detroit straight sixes - Mopar 225, Ford 300, Chevy 250 et al.)

Did you listen to any of the posted videos?

If anything, I'd expect a Viper to sound like an I5, not an I6 (especially since on older models, each exhaust served only one bank of cylinders, no crossover pipe).
