2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

No seriously, it is one of the better-looking crossovers/SUVwannabes that has come out of the house of Chrysler/Dodge.

I don't think the Calibre is that bad looking, although I haven't been inside of one.  I'm sure people are exaggerating when they say they'd rather have a 10 year old Mazda 323 or 15 year old Impreza Station Wagon over one.  I know I'd rather have a Caliber than my Ibiza, even though I love my car...

No we're not exaggerating.  I would rather have the 1978 Chrysler Cordoba I had when I was 16, then have a Caliber.  I had to live with a Caliber for a couple days and it's the worst car I've ever driven.

On another note, the GM dealer in my hometown is having a 2 for 1 sale as well, but in this case if you buy a pickup truck, you get a second pickup truck free.

In a town just 2 hours away, the Nissan dealer had a "Buy a Titan, get a Versa Free" sale last week.

That's because Cordobas are fantastic, of course:

Could I sell the Caliber and get a newer Impreza?

I'll venture to say that the Caliber isn't bad looking, but I'll also venture to say that putting the Caliber body on the chassis and running gear of a 1995 Kia Sephia would be a substantial improvement.

You can sell the Caliber for 50% more than what you paid for it.

Good luck finding that deal on a WRX.

Even after tax, title, and registration, you won't have enough to buy even your own current car.

Bolshevik.

And even if that is the case, my car is probably better than a Caliper anyway.

I really doubt it.  15 years is a long time and a lot of progress, even for a Chrysler.

Overall, without a doubt.

Going by simply fun-to-drive? I don't know. None of the cooking grade Subies I've driven have ever struck me as tossable, or quick to respond. The older ones do sort of have a rogh and ready charm to their behavior though.

The only Calibre I've driven was a rental, I drove it for all of about ten miles, and I never was able to flog it (business trip, with coworkers in the car.), but there was no indication of any real fun to driveness whatsoever.

I'd say the jury's out on the subject.

This is where I mention that there has to be something very wrong with a new car if it's still a tossup between it and a 15-year-old beater.

Well, you have 110bhp and are saddled with AWD (which generally doesn't make for a fun car by default and is wholly unnecessary unless you're talking about having more than twice the power you have) and the Caliber has 148bhp base (with 172 and 285 optional), FWD, and weighs 2900-3100 pounds.

But for the price, I'll take a similarly priced Rabbit over the Caliber.  The 172bhp R/T is 20 grand.  That's expensive.

For some reason, I always pictured this car in the more 11-14K range.  Hmm...
