1983 Porsche 928 S

1986 McLaren TAG MP 4/2 C Formel 1

1994 Porsche C 88 Concept - this car was designed and engineered by Porsche for the Chinese market. It would have come with a Porsche designed 1.1-l engine that was good for 48 or 68-horsepower. Thankfully it never saw production!  :ohyeah:

Engines...

1956 Porsche Typ 597 "Jagdwagen"

1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet - if the keys were in the ignition I would attempt to drive it way!  :partyon:

1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

1988 Porsche 959 Coupe

1993 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.6 Speedster

Yes, that C88 is pretty horrid, isn't it? A sort of Dacia Logan. but whereas that is OK as an idea, a Porsche made cheap and horrid is just off limits!

No comment needed on that one.

Nevertheless, I'd cut off my left nut for that car.

I had to restrain myself and take my time getting to the big name cars. When I saw the 959 I had to resist from just skipping half the museum and running over there.

That C88 is interesting. Has much more visual flair than other cheap cars today. If it was butt-engined, then it'd be excellent.

Yeah, what the fuck?  Where do you come up with shit?

It doesn't have any visual flair really, and why would a rear engined economy car make any sense?

:wtf:

It wasn't successful because it was rear engined...

And 2o6 is saying that's the deal breaker on the C88?  Come on.

The C88 appears to be a real piece of work, and so does 2o6, but that has nothing to do with whether or not a rear-engined economy car is a good idea.

I stand by my original statement.  The C88 at the time it was conceived, nor now, would make sense as a rear engined car, and it definitely wouldn't make it "excellent."

Do you really want to get into semantics here? Well, I do.

You said: "...and why would a rear engined economy car make any sense?"

You did not say: "...and why would a rear engined C88 make any sense?"

A C88 would be an interesting car, had they made it...

...but it would have never made sense in anything but developing countries and Nick's garage.

Ask Tata. The Nano is Rear engine. Rear engine allows for a more spacious cabin, (Like a FWD car) but there's no steering components to mess with.

Thing is, there's still a steering rack in front taking up space.  The packing would be inefficient at best.

Notice I'm not one of the people dismissing the C88?

I think it would have been a decent car, too; just not here.
