It won't come out until 2012, but at least that gives you time to save up the $21,000 it's going to cost

It looks like it came out of Star Wars.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Looks cool.  The price is impressive. We'll have to see what kind of performance it puts out.

That could possibly be the best looking Toyota built in over a decade.

Styling's good, but unless it's boasting over 200 hp (doubtful since I think it's got an NA Subie boxer 4 under hood), weighs under 2700 lbs (also doubtful) or comes with a lot of standard features, I think it's a bit overpriced.

To compete with the Genesis, they're going to have to give it boost and more boost.

I can't wait to see what kind of transmission they use.

How would it compare size-wise.  I would think it would be in a different class then the Genesis and Mustang.

assuming 2800 lbs/175 hp, that's slightly better power:weight ratio than a V6 Mustang. For $21k, I'd definitely take this over a V6 Stang, but I'd need to wait on more info before choosing this over a GenCoupe 2.0

I think it's going to be full WRX treatment:  base will be a 175 hp H4, midline will be the 224 hp H4, and top-of-the-line will be 265 hp H4.  The two latter will probably have AWD, too.

It's possibly, but I thought they were going to go with a cabforward idea here so that the RWD couple would have a better weight ratio and handling with the engine further back unlike how any of the current subaru line ups are to fit AWD. So my money is that the design of the car will not allow for a simple subaru power train adjustment to make it AWD.

If the engine is pushed back over the axle, it will not be AWD no matter what.  Although Subies are notoriously nose-heavy, that setup allows for the tranny to drive the front wheels.

Also, I think it will be down on power compared to the Impreza, come to think of it.  The engine was optimized with a top-mount intercooler, and if they move it to the front, it might not get the same level of breathing.  Take off a few horsepower from the 'Prez, imo.

But DI would probably make up for that if they have to move the intercooler to the front. Heck, I think it's actually a good trade-off to have the engine behind the front axle.

Considering that mounting the intercooler above the hot engine is just about the worst place you can put it, I don't think moving it to the front will really be a cause for much, if any, power loss.  I'd also anticipate that they wouldn't just take the existing IC and relocate it, they'd put a different IC unit in as well.

Mazda and subie mount them above the engine now not for any real engineering reasons (though they'll claim otherwise). They do it because it simplifies engine installation during assembly.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Yeah, wouldn't mounting it above engine make it really prone to heat soak especially on the track?

Yes, but it makes it a neat and tidy package to install on the assembly line.

There are some supposed advantages. It makes the charge pipes short, so it reduces lag, and its relatively easy to vent through the hood, and it helps somewhat with the for aft weight distribution, which is especially important on a nose heavy design liek a Subie.

But, it also raises the C of G, puts it in a very hot place in the first place, and there is minimal natural airflow.

Most people searching for power on their turbo Subies go to a front mount intercooler pretty early on.
