Wait...there were cars before 1959?  This is going to take some research.

Yeah, if I had $100,000 I surely wouldn't be spending it on something from before 1959.  I'm not big into really old old cars.

Cool to see what others had to say though.

+1. The only ones that I'm interested in are at least half my budget, which I'd rather put towards the '85 to current category.

Alright, here we go:

BMW Isetta - 5500 British pounds = 8 085.55 U.S. dollars - http://tinyurl.com/cxwzr2

BMW 2002tti - $14,000 - http://tinyurl.com/de2nep

Aston Martin Vantage - $77,650 - http://tinyurl.com/ctbk2h

That brings my total to... $99,735.55

I want to make another list now but the pre 1959 ones are hard.

I really wanted to put the Hudson Hornet as my pre-'59 car, but the only one I could find was on ebay with an unknown reserve.

I guess I'll have to "settle" for a Coupe Deville :tounge:

I also wanted my '60-'84 car to be the Mercedes 280SE convertible, but holy crap are they $$$

A good condition Hornet will set you back at least $40,000 and at most about $80,000 for a concours car.

I still have not made up my mind about what would be on my list.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

Great prices for the first two, Omi.  Those cars can go for a lot more in the states, exchange rates factored in.

I once met a guy who ran a car customizing/restoration shop.  He was restoring a T-Bird like that in a rotisserie to the tune of about $180,000.

I was looking at C1 'Vettes for my pre-59, but that would have taken up about half my budget, when I really just wanted to save it for my post '85 car.

MG Magnette, $20k, the hell with proof, because no one is selling one right now.

Porsche 911 SC coupe, $25k, the hell with proof, but we all know this is a reasonable price

25K is way too high for an SC.  The one I drove was selling for 12,500 (came down to 11,500 without any bargaining) and that was three or four years ago.

Didn't say the cars had to be in any kind of decent shape, so:

1939 Packard 110 - $6,000

1969 Corvette Stingray - $9,999

2009 Corvette Z06 - $74,411

$90,410 total initial investment.

The plan is I buy the new 'Vette, drive until I get bored with it, then skid it sideways into guardrail and destroy the body.  I pick up the insurance check and salvage the chassis, suspension and drivetrain.  I transplant that under the old 'Vette, then move the old 350 motor into the Packard, and use all the available funds to build the two cars into the ultimate Stingray 427 restorod and wicked Rat Pack hot rod.

I need to get $90,410 together and make this happen.

This is a really nice SC, not a run of the mill SC. I've seen really nice (like, show condition) SC's up to about $25k. Also, they're starting to appreciate. I still need to spend $45k on something newer...

GT Hawks are wonderfully good value here; I've seen perfectly good cars below AUD$25k. For what is such a stunning car, it doesn't attract anywhere near the interest of other makes and models.

If he went for a used 2008 Jag instead of a brand new one, he'd probably be under $75k easily.
