Mazda Miata?
I didn't think someone would get it so fast. :(

I bought a blue 1990 Mazda Miata with 64,000 original miles.  It still looks new.  Never been in an accident, never driven in the winter, and always driven gently.  I know all this to be true because it's my mother-in-law's.  She bought it new off the lot in April of 1990.  Now I just have to get it from Montreal to all the way out west.  The only thing is that it's an automatic, but that allows my wife to be able to drive it.  Oh and I picked it up for $5000, which she's in no hurry to see.  She just wants it to have a good home.

I wonder how much a 5.0L swap will cost.

Driven gently?! You'd better give it a thrashing to burn out all the carbon. :evildude:

Car guys on a budget tend to gravitate towards Miatas. It wasn't that crazy of a guess.

She called us out of the blue today and offered it up.  She said that she knew I would take care of it, and she doesn't want her other children to know until I have the car in my garage.  I'm hoping that will happen soon.  I need to find out how much the shipping will cost on the train.

Oh, you said you "picked it up for $5000", I thought you meant you already took delivery. I was wondering why you hadn't shared any driving impressions yet.

Congratulations, and welcome to the low-miles NA club! :thumbsup:

Thanks.  I'm assuming NA is that generation Miata?  I know next to nothing about Miatas except that a Mustang V8 fits.  I told my wife that when finances allow it, a 5.0L is going in that thing and she said, "What will that do?".

NA = first, NB = second, NC = third. The Miata chassis codes don't cause headaches like BMWs do with E8159876713.

Subscribe to the GoMiata catalog, it's great bathroom reading material and it might give you ideas.

I've wasted evenings on Youtube watching videos of V8 Miatas being driven. Somebody swapped a Jag V12 in their Miata, but that ended up running and sounding like complete ass.

Wow congrats.  What an iconic sports car.

oh man, what a lucky kid. I would have enjoyed nothing more than to put a driver like VBH behind the wheel of my old Miata and have her drive like a mad woman around a wet track while I ride shotgun. Or better yet, my S2000. (I can admit that if I tried that myself, I'd put the car in the grass upside-down. Yes, even the Miata.)

Congrats, Hemi. Miatas are wonderful cars to drive around town. Every time I see one of the new 2009 models, I always think of how cool it would be if I got one as a second car.

Apparently with the automatic it's rated at 105 hp.  Shit, this thing is definitely getting a turbo or a V8.

I like the looks of this turbo kit:

First of let me start by saying........... HOMO! This is like me getting a Mustang

Any performance parts should come from these guys. They cost more but in the end they are the best hands down and worth the little extra money. http://www.flyinmiata.com/
You can find a V8 conversion kit from them as well. I just looked and saw you found them. They are the guys to use

NA = 1st gen
NB= 2nd
NC = 3rd and so on.

And please don't judge an MX-5 by driving an auto. I'm not trying to bash your car but an auto NA is soooo much different than one with a 5 speed in it. I'm talking night and day here.

Sounds like a good excuse for a cross-country road-trip in a sweet little sports car.

Congratulations.  I hope your wife has a lot of fun with it before you hotrod it.

If you have some vacation time, a cross country trip might be nice. Highway 17 between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay is very good drive.

Actually, I'd say that the NA Miata is far from the ideal road trip car; it's cramped and buzzy. If someone wanted a sporty convertible to use for a road trip, I'd suggest a Mustang 100 times before I'd suggest an old Miata.

the Teuton

I think I want a convertible.
