They should let a little bit of air out of the tires.

Is lessening air pressure effective with low profile tires?

We had little to no problems with a Trailbrazer SS at the outer banks... just let some air out of the tires and keep your momentum up -shrug-

This is epic fail of driver, not vehicle.

No amount of power, gadgetry or 4WD hardcore hardware is going to countermand the mistake to sink a vehicle to its doors in sand.

Did you drive the Trailblazer all the way down and into the water?

r0tor

pretty close to the water... i could see how one could drive close to the water, sink it to the doors, and have the tide come up on you -shrug-

But better and bigger tires with low pressure, more clearance, and a locked front and rear will let you get a little further before you do get stuck.

at the outer banks we lowered the air down inthe tires of the AWD Trailblazer SS with high performance tires and was fine.  Our friends failed to do the same on their rental regular Trailblazer with a real 4WD system and M/S tires and they sunk it to the axles pretty quickly.

Hell, many subaru outback station wagons were zipping around with no problems.  The point is a nymrod drivrive will sink a car on the beach no matter what equipment he has.

lolwut? So you're saying nothing could get out of sand if it's sunk to its door in it?

I'm not gonna say you're wrong but I'm pretty sure there are cars out there that could get out of that situation

If a driver is unskilled enough to get into the situation, how do you think they will be able to get out of it?

I cannot even imagine how much damage he did to the wheels with spinning them in the sand.

not much... the sand is so loosely packed that it pretty much instantly just gets pushed away from the wheel

When we went to the Outer Banks, There was a dude just sitting in a towtruck at the entrance to the beach where it says "ONLY 4x4s!!!"   "No driving on the beach unless you know what you're doing!!!!!"
The sandwich shop guy said that towtruck guy makes a killing.
