whatever you get, make sure it has dual over head piston springs

Of course. Those make the pistons... springy-er. I'll make sure the blinker fluid and filter is good, too. Boy, can that lead to problems!

I dunno if someone has brought this up, but when they measure the length of a pickup bed, it is with the tailgate closed. When you sleep you have it open most likely, therefore giving you an extra foot or whatever of room.

Basically a 6' bed would be plenty of room with the tailgate down. Try it out.

"No, Mr Bond. I expect you to die!?

Rupert

Yeah, but then it rains and the mosquitoes stay up late. I require full protection, and I don't want to have to construct something. Remember that I own a pick-up with a six foot bed. ;)

Maybe an old regular cab GM pickup with an 8' bed? Comes with choice of 4.3 V6, 305 or 350 engines, all noted for being tough. I've driven many that had a whole pile of miles on them (in excess of 200,000mi) and they still ran well.

So you plan on purchasing a topper if you buy a truck?

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

Totally save up and buy a Honda Element.  That thing was made for baby-making.  And they're getting close to $6,000.  You can find them under $10,000 now.

Or build one, since toppers are so damned expensive. I've noticed that a lot of pick-up tailgates don't fully seal off the outside, either, which lets skeeters in, so I'd probably have to buy a camper-type with a pop-top, which is even more expensive, and less useful for other truck things. I'd have to put in on and off, and store it... And pick-ups that aren't shitty ain't cheap. I'm less into pick-ups than I am SUVs or MPVs.

Too much of a car, and I don't want babies. ;)

I bought a used S-10 topppper for my Ranger for $120, IIRC. Fit good, and almost matched the paint.

Only if you put a 302 in it.

Nonsense.

The 2.9L German-engineered, electronically fuel injected V6 provides adequate power.

Yeah, I guess used toppers are around... I dunno, I don't want to have to get out of the thing to go around back to sleep.

It's easier to go through the back-door of an SUV than it is to climb over the front seats.

Probably depends on the SUV... It's pretty easy in an MPV.

It's not THAT big. I'm learning on/driving my parents 2000 E150. Takes a bit to get used to, but it can do anything a car or truck can do. Just don't get the 6CYL variants. They're piss slow.

Rupert

Yes, it is that big. I know all about big vehicles, and full size vans are big. They're the same size as full-size trucks, which are too big. I've driven many miles in too-big trucks and vans, and they are not what I want. :ohyeah:

I also don't care about piss-slow. That usually means better gas mileage, which I'm all for, especially on long trips.

Just keeping options on the table, ya know. I'd have to put a shell over the bed of the truck, and it would need to have a 7 foot bed. If I was gonna sleep under the stars in the bed of a pick up, I might as well just put a pad on the (softer) ground.

I've got the perfect vehicle for you psilos plenty of room to sleep in the bed and still has 4x4.  Not so sure it's that great on gas though.
