My lifelong ambition has come true: I've seen the new Toyota Camry in person!

And it made my eyes heavy too.

This is news?

We don't get the Camry in Europe. This is clearly a US-spec model that was lightly modified for Europe. The speedometer was in mph too.

This car is a real exotic here. I've seen more Porsche Carrera GT's on the road here than Camry's.  :praise:

There are actually grey import companies that import the Camry.

For the love of god...WHY!?

What's the point? They already sell the Avensis here which is completely designed to meet the European market conditions. But a Camry? Nevermind the V6, but what are the specs for that 4-cylinder model?

Because of the weakness of the US$ you could import a Camry Hybrid for the price that a Prius costs in Euroland even with all the import costs. Not sure if that is still the case. With that being the case some opted for the more comfortable Camry. Getting parts is not a problem. Even though the Camry is not offered in Europe the Toyota dealers cen still order anything needed by simply entering the part number into the computer. Warrenty can be an issue.

the Teuton

2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Camrys are pretty rare here.  I saw a Camry in Gibraltar but then again, Gibraltar is only about 6 sq km, so who cares about fuel economy in a place like that

Nice. You Europeans get all the cool, rare models over there. I would kill for a Euro-spec Camry.

I do have to say that imo the Camry is probably the best styled Toyota currently available.

Don't worry. It doesn't need spare parts. Camry's are so reliable.  :winkguy:

However, with work pretty much any car can look good.

The Camry is attractive, but it's just floaty and boring.

If you really want to know, here you go.......

2009 Toyota Camry

DOHC 16 valve 2.4 litre, 158-hp @ 6,000 rpm, 161 lbs.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm

Slightly different outputs for California emissions model: 155-hp @ 6,000 rpm, 158 lbs.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm

2010 Models are getting a new 50 State engine: DOHC 16 valve 2.5 litre, 169-hp @ 6,000 rpm, 167 lbs.-ft. @ 4,100 rpm

BTW Wimmer, the Toyota dealer says they have received your order for the 2010 Camry with that new engine.  I've already made arrangements to have the dealer deliver the car to the port so it can be shipped to you.  The shipping company says you will have your new Camry in about four weeks, so stop calling them every day asking when it will arrive!

I think they are sold in parts of Eastern Europe............... while on my hols in Croatia, I did see a few. I certainly recall them with Ukranian plates and I think there might have been a Hungarian one, too.

Most of the global players are selective in which models they sell in which markets. I always thought that Toyota US had a gap between the Corolla (compact) and Camry (full-size), but the rental car companies have all now declared the Corolla a mid-size, so perhaps the gap is too small to make it worth filling with another sedan?

Bah! No thanks!  :nono:

I think Toyota sells the Camry in Australia but it is called Auris down there. That thing looks so much better than this thing in my photos. By the way, check the Spotted Today thread because I saw a weird Citroen CX with 6 axles!

We have the Auris here, but it's a smaller Corolla-sized model.  The factory is about 30 mins drive from here.

Yep, I meant AURION. A much better balanced design in my opinion. None of that quirky styling the US model has, which could look decent if it didn't have that ridiculous front (and rear).

Camry is midsize. The Avalon slots above it in the Toyota lineup.
