Very ugly and the 4-cylinder will be a complete dog.

S204STi

I wonder how much it will weigh?  I met someone today with an older 1st gen with the fourbanger and they get high-20s for fuel economy.  That could be nice.

Tave

Well, it depends how much you open her up. Don't expect to drive faster than 70 to get that. The around-town mileage is nice, but then the suspension isn't set-up for city driving. :loopy:

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

I can't quite imagine the new one doing that well. The current V6 RWD weighs in at 4000 lbs, I can't imagine the new one weighing less.

Yikes, what a pig.

Tave

The old ones weren't much better.

Barely; right around 2-tons themselves.

Wow.  I'm impressed then with those folks' fuel econ.

That really doesn't strike me as all that bad. The Edge weighs just as much despite being a unibody. Now that's a pig.

Good point.

Atomic

Piss off.

umm... a little harsh, eh?!

i do not dispute the success of past 4runners, but i still like the new one much better.

i stand by my initial observation and subsequent opinion. i do admire your passion, though  :tounge: !

Are you kidding me?  That's only 120 lbs more then a new Camaro.

He means the SUV that's apparently called the Land Cruiser in Britain.

It's the LandCruiser Prado here, too, and you can get a new one with unpainted bumpers, steel wheels and a 3.0 turbodiesel six.

There hasn't been a 4cylinder model since the last redesign.

It does look like someone took a highlander, made it a bit bigger, and smacked it in the face. Unfortunate. I've always liked the 4Runner, they're normally very capable at going places most SUVs don't go anymore, but they keep making it less and less truck-like, it seems. Eventually it'll just be a truck platform highlander, which I don't think is as much fun.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

With truck-based SUVs become a niche market now, perhaps they'll be more willing to make it a truck.

And they try to pass this off as a Lexus....

You can get a 3dr version in Europe.

I like the basic shape, but the details on the front and rear look busy.

Doesn't look bad actually.

Never been into rockers, and I think the front overhang is too low, but all in all it looks good (reminds me a lot of the Jeep GC).

Still would have loved to have seen the 5.7L as an option, but the beefed up 4.0L V6 should suffice; even in its previous lower HP form it felt far stronger than its peak HP number would indicate.

S204STi

I bet you could automatically improve the front overhang by un-clipping that little blacked out chin spoiler bit and leaving it at home if you're going to take it off-road.

Those pics look much better, the taillights are my biggest complaint.
