Very cool.  This is the same sort of market the Astro cargo filled when it was on the market.

Oh, that's what that thing is.  I saw one parked in front of the local Ford store.  Kinda neat, actually.  Should be hugely useful.

Raza

I like them.  I can't think of any reason I'd buy one, but I like them.

Good to hear, but I still think Ford missed a trick by not offering the diesel model in the US.

Maybe this will inspire Volkswagen to bring over the diesel powered Caddy Maxi?

I wonder how this will compete with the Sprinter.

The Sprinter is a much larger van and is therefore not a direct competitor of the Transit Connect.  Ford's rivals to the Sprinter are the Econoline in America and the (big) Transit in Europe.

I've seen a few of 'em on the streets.  They seem really practical.

local ford dealerships have quite a few in stock, but i have yet to see one on the road. they are generally white or silver... naturally for fleet purposes. looking through a brochure the interior can only be had in one color, black/dark gray. this makes sense for a hugely commercial truck. i do love the look.

according to articles in area nyc publications, the city had hoped to buy hundreds of these practical vans to use in place of crown victoria and other dated taxi cabs, but these new fords do not meet the "green" requirements set forth by mayor bloomberg. the big apple seems to dislike diesels -- not available on u.s. transits, but hopefully, clean diesels will become popular in nyc. i do see a lot of ford escape, nissan altima, toyota camry and toyota prius hybrid cabs all over the place. the nycpd recently purchased a fleet of altima hybrids to compliment the sharp dodge charger v6 and v8 squad cars. the ford crown vic interceptors are nearly defunct, even though the gas mileage may not differ much from the hemi v8 chargers. perhaps there are other factors (i.e. bids, new vs. old) for the switch from the once extremely popular fords.

Atomic

wow! so hot, imo. was this what was displayed at last year's (or the previous yr's) ny international autoshow? i seem to remember it being mostly or all yellow -- with "ny" graphics. it has been awhile, so i may be mistaken. i do know one was displayed there. that i remember! i am losing it, but not completely. lol!

Madman

Local Ford dealer has a white one.  It's already sold.

Like Raza said, I like them even though I have no use for one.

I do think they should have brought over a diesel variant.

The perfect Taxi?

Maybe without those wheels and what looks like lower springs.

I saw one of those last week and was pleased that things are going more that direction. They're a better fit for small businesses that don't need/want big panel vans, but also don't want an SUV or station wagon you can see all their equipment in. Kudos to Ford on bringing an idea that's been successful elsewhere here for once.

I heard they don't offer a diesel.  Does America's loathing of diesel even run to commercial vehicles?

No, almost all heavy commercial vehicles are diesels.

Right, but nothing this light-duty. Even most of our vans and pickups are gas-powered, because it's cheaper.

Guess so.
Idiotz. This would be the perfect vehicle to bring the diesel back- as small business owners realize the gas $$ savings, they would be more prone to buy diesel cars.
(Since acc. to the radio, small businesses are the #1 business in the US.)

Are the ones in US also made in Turkey?

Yes, they are.  So Ford has no excuse for not giving us the diesel since our Transit Connect comes off the exact same assembly line as the European models.  I don't even think you can get a gasoline powered Transit Connect in Europe?  (I looked on the Ford UK Commercial Vehicle site and all I saw were diesels)  Damn Ford always screwing up the US models!  I hope they don't botch the US spec Fiesta (if the damn thing ever gets here!)

They may not have a small diesel that is certified to pass our emissions standards.

93JC

Exactly.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say I'm almost certain they don't have a small diesel that meets North American emissions standards. Right now our standards are roughly speaking equivalent to 'Euro VI', which I don't think even comes into force for another 2-5 years.
