I should have sued them.  Those Firestones had terrible tread for wet clay at 60 mph.

Rupert

Yeah, what the hell? Wet clay is totally something all tires should be able to handle at speed.

In a standard trans?

of course, in a Golf TDI with 100.000 kms of driving school abuse, go figure....

But then I was allowed to top it out during driver's ed - 215 km/h according to the speedo

Back then, either DMV or a state trooper would come to your town (something like second Tuesday of the month) and do the tests.   Parallel parking was part of it, but I cheated and got away with it.   When we pulled back on the street where the community building was located, he said "alright, let's see how you park".  There was only two spots open, both were going to be tight.  So, I pulled around to the back of the building and parked in the parking lot.  He started laughing and said something like, "good enough" and that he didn't make himself clear on what he expected.  He let it go and that was it.

I had to reverse round a corner during the test but that was the only odd request I had from the instructor (who was about 147 years old, BTW!)  Seriously, he was this wheezing old man who looked as if he was going to drop dead at any minute!

Fortunately for me, no.

Actually, now that I think about it I was convinced at the time I needed to take the test in an automatic because I failed the written test for my learner's permit the first time around, in particular because I disagreed with many of the manual transmission questions.

You know, failing a written test for learner's permit is an absolute indicator of incurable stupidity syndrome.

I still remember two questions which seemed absolutely preposterous. The make-or-break question that I got wrong was "At what distance from an intersection in a rural area should you signal a turn?" I had no idea. Still don't! I think the correct answer is 150 m.

The worst question by far was "What should you NOT do in a car with a manual transmission while crossing railroad tracks?" The 'correct' answer was change gear, which is fine you shouldn't change gear, however all of the other possible answers were perfectly acceptable. There was one other possible answer that was just blatantly obvious at the time, which I picked. I wish I could remember it. I'm sure it wasn't as blatantly stupid as 'stop', but it was very obvious.

After you wake up with the sun at 6am on someone's floor, coughing up cigarette butts and tasting like warm beer, you may well change your opinion on this matter.

My Mom's A4.

Congratulations! This is recent, huh? You were talking about driving illegally for the longest.

I will probably take it in the Econoline come late October early November. Possibly one of my brothers' Corollas.  (A choice of an 02' or an 06')

The on-the-street part of the test will be cake, but the cone manuverability may be a bit challenging. I practiced on a practice course, and I did fine going right. Going left, I was ok going forward, but reversing out and straigting my path I was a hair too wide and then I tapped the cone. Tapped it though. If I would have fallen over, I would have failed the test.

I'm going to swing for the Corolla, though.

For all you non US people, a picture of an Econoline.

The OH one was tricky. There was one question I had utterly no clue, and I had read the book.

" What is the legal blood alcohol content for someone who is under the age of 18?"

It's not zero.

It's rather high, actually. Seemed to be equavelent to maybe a beer or so.

In a lot of states it was/is .04%, which is half the legal limit.  It's 0.00 in Maine, which makes sense.  Why allow someone who isn't legally allowed to drink alcohol at all to be allowed to drive with alcohol in their system?
.
And, to answer the question, I took my test in a '98 Subaru Legacy

Mouth wash; at least that's what I have heard.

On a side note, I know of a girl who got cited for .01% (not whilst driving). Seriously, why bother? I can't imagine that stood up in court.

It's .02 in Pennsylvania.

I suppose, but if you only have mouthwash in your system I doubt an officer would detect it before he brought you in for BAC testing.  Officers can't just yank people out of cars and bring them down to the station to get their breath tested.  They have to generate probable cause, which is based on indications of impairment at the scene.  If you show signs of impairment from using mouthwash, then you're doing it wrong.

I've charged people with violations of license restrictions when they've blown .01s.  An intox machine won't read anything if there's no alcohol present.  Maybe with margin of error the actual quantity might be incorrect, but there is certainly alcohol present.

Now back to the thread...

It's between 0.02 and 0.08 in OH.

You know, I think I had that question too. And I'm sure I screwed it up, because I have no idea. I think it was .05, and now it's 0... ?

Actually that car was kind of fun in its sheer simplicity. There was absolutely nothing to it and it gave the feeling that a gust of wind could really take it away. It was also automatic (thankfully not the 3 speed). I imagine that thing would be a lot of fun with a bigger motor or turbo.
