Guess what car it is...

I saw the ad on Craigslist and thought 'how peculiar'

something korean

That would be my guess: a Daewoo Leganza. I wouldn't have been surprised by that value, though.

Galant?

There is actually a 99 I30t on sale w/109K for 3K... I30s are cheaper than Maxima GLEs for some reason which is good to me.

It must have been flagged between the time you and I posted. It was a Galant.

Here are some others that are still pretty unbelievable
http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/cto/1398503964.html 2002 for 2500??
http://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/cto/1397843721.html 1999 for 2000?? V6 too
http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/cto/1394828092.html 2001, 95K miles... 2500!

I mean these are Taurus prices. I would never ever ever get one of these because the interiors are downright Chrysler cheap... but they are decent looking, and from what I understand pretty reliable. What gives?

No local phone number, only a hotmail e-mail address?  Scam.  Try e-mailing the seller and I'll bet he's not in town and the car is "with a shipping company" somewhere (probably Las Vagas).  You can have some fun stringing him along, but that just gets old after a while.

I wonder if the seller's name is Brad?

Mitsubishis have ALWAYS have had horrible depreciation. The Galant is no exception. It's not a very good car......reliable yes, but auto only, cramped, and overall simply not desireble.

Hmm. Those scames are almost always for luxury/expensive sports cars for a quarter or less of KBB. Not average cheap sedans. You know M3s for $4k. 2005+ Range Rovers for $5k. That sort of thing. Nobody scams on Galants. They just aren't desireable enough. ;)
Like a fine Detroit wine, this vehicle has aged to budgetary perfection...

You missed his thread with the 2001 Golf scam.

A friend of mine was telling me just yesterday he almost fell for a phishing e-mail promising a $133 refund because it was small enough to be plausible.
