Maybe they are from Poland... but they are paying homage somewhere else...

So we have a memorial with crosses with a path leading up a steep hill to a European looking building.  The start of the path is flanked by statues of two rabbits with enormous upright ears.   the landscape looks distinctly eastern European or Asian.

Odessa?  not the one in Texas?

No, and I think they're eagles... not rabbits.

It's in Europe, and the memorial is there for a reason.

Hint: this is a famous WW2 battle site. Apparently some Polish tourists/veterans are visiting in the picture, so I assume the Poles were participants to some degree... but they were not one of the primary combatants.

No.

Hint: The battle was named for the structure in the background... which was destroyed and later rebuilt.

Correct, John! And yeah, it was pretty much obliterated in the battle:

It's hard to imagine anyone could live through the destruction of that place.

I'll put something up this weekend.
