You could argue the laziness bit for everything OTHER than the styling, which looks much better than the MkV's, IMO.

Okay, in the past day, I've heard about the reliability issues of a Jetta, Toaureg, and Tiguan.

It's a good thing I didn't vote yet. I'm going with the Mazda. Coincidentally, the dealer we work with at work is a VW/Mazda split dealership.

At least in the tests I know (evil biased german ones) the reliability of the Golf was said to be very good. Autobild even tested the Golf on a 200.000km distance and it did very, very well.

In the current Autobild there's an article about used Mazda 3s though. They are very reliable cars, but they have one major problem: rust. That doesn't make them bad cars, but the picture of

Mazda=good reliability

VW=bad reliability

doesn't fit here.

VW has consistantly ranked slightly below average in reliability surveys.  The bulk of that is from the popular Jetta (MkIVs in particular were notorious for issues).  The Golf, being German-built, has generally been ranked pretty highly in reliability.

MKIV Jettas suck ass... there is no getting around that; you don't have to be stuck in the past to acknowledge that.

I have two co-workers who both own Jetta TDI's and both of them have had the power windows on the driver's door fail.  When was the last time a power window motor failed in...anything?  Albeit, that's the only problem either of them have had.
