Ahhh... the exhaust was throwing me off. It's not a mid-engine, the pipe is cut behind the converter. Hmmm... it's FWD, or AWD, with the transmission/transfer case removed. The engine is well forward of the front axles.

Isuzu Rodeo?

Unless that boot on the left side of the pic is off the steering rack.

Front or all-wheel-drive seemed like the best idea to me, which is why I guessed Audi. Note that the engine is mounted longitudinally, not transversely. Not many FWD/AWD cars have longitudinally-mounted engines.

I was going to guess Audi V8, but it probably isn't because you'd expect a vee engine to have the two exhaust manifolds meet somewhere underneath the car. There's only one pipe visible, on the right side, which to me suggests inline engine.

The bottom of the engine looks pretty bizarre. It looks like something you see underneath a manual transmission.

I don't know.

That's definitely a drive axle, with the other one removed. And yeah, that's a longitudinal engine, most likely a 4 cyl.

Here's a hint that should give it away:

Every guess up until this point has been far more "exotic" than this actual car. Yes, every single one of them.

That's still pretty exotic.
I don't get under many vehicles these days .

Okay, a pick-up of some sort.  I'll try Ranger.

It's not a pick-up, although you do have the right idea as to the position of the cab.

Ok, when I said the position if the cab was like a pickup truck, I really meant that as more of a metaphor.
