Yes. You wouldn't want to do anything "green".

The electromagnetic field from the electric motor will rot your brain and cause your penis to whither and fall off.

I don't like the driving experience of hybrids.  It's not sporting, and the CR-Z is supposed to be sporting.

Considering how there's two Hybrids, neither of them with sporting pretensions, on sale, automatically this one is going to be lame?

I really like this. It looks great.

There are two hybrids?  Really?  I can count more then that.

Honda Insight (original model)
Toyota Prius (3 incarnations)
Honda Civic (2 incarnations?)
Honda Insight (new model)
Lexus GS 460h / LS 600h (not sure if I have the numbers right)
New Lexus HS thingy

I think that's it.

Aren't the Lexus hybrids supposed to do that?  They're not exactly about economy are they?

LOL

Prius, Insight, Civic, Camry, Altima, LS, RX, GS, HS, Escape/Tribute/Mariner, Fusion/Milan, Tahoe/Escalade/Yukon, Silverado/Sierra, Malibu, Highlander, Vue, S400, X6

Not to mention, it should be "there are" not "there's."

If you're counting past models, add the Accord Hybrid to my list. As far as I know, that's the only hybrid model that's been discontinued.

EDIT: Apparently there were Aura and Durango/Aspen Hybrids as well. It appears that both are being discontinued for the 2010 model year.

There are more than two hybrids; not a single one is sporty.

And "eerily quiet" is not the kind of sound I want when I'm pushing my car.

I think the Lexus hybrids are supposed to prove that hybrids can be fast (and in the process, not very economical), not necessarily sporty.

I still think it would be awesome to get an Escalade Hybrid and put a really loud exhaust system on there, so that when you hit 25 MPH or whenever it is, you scare all the people around you with the thunderous sound of your giant 6.2L V8.

I thought the GM and Chrysler Hybrids weren't proper hybrids...can anyone explain?

The GM hybrids are not.  I don't know exactly without doing some reading, and I don't have time for that right now.  All I know is that they aren't.

The GM trucks are full hybrids -- it's their passenger cars that aren't. (I also don't have time for the exact differences)

Specs:

"We finally have hard figures on the 1.5-liter engine's output (in JDM spec), with the diminutive four-cylinder putting out 112 horsepower (at 6,000 rpm) on its own and another 14 hp from its electric motor. Just as importantly, the engine creates 107 lb-ft of torque (at 4,800 rpm) with the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system boosting that by another 57 lb-ft at an oh-so-low 1,000 rpm. Coupled with either a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox, the CR-Z nets a relatively uninspiring 0 to 62 mph time of 9.7 seconds."

Kinda slow, but the IMA acts as a nice torque boost for the torqueless wonders that many Hondas are.

Would this extra boost (would likely be VERY noticable) really be worth the weight gain?

I'll hold off judgment on how it feels until it's out.

Isn't the Accord Hybrid made with Sporty intentions and not merely fuel consumption in mind?

No.

It was to offer the performance of the V6 with the fuel economy of the 4cyl.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing?  It's intention wasn't to have a slow ass lugging engine like rest of the hybrids.

No. The Accord was supposed to be a "normal" car. This car is supposed to be sporty.

The Accord hybrid had the V6 and the electric motor and thus was faster than the standard V6. It was the first hybrid that was performance oriented rather than economy oriented.

I'll be the first here to say it: I'd take one. It looks nice...supposing the Subaru Impreza coupe isn't out first...

...oh yeah, it looks like the real Insight finally stood up, too...

but as long as it's cheaper than the Insight and gets better mpg than the Prius, then it gets a :ohyeah: from me

Sorry, I'm gonna have to agree with Hemi here.  When driven hard, a hybrid will deplete its battery in short order and then you're left with an underpowered gas engine being tasked with pulling the dead weight of the now useless hybrid drivetrain.

That looks like a lot of fun.

I just wish it weren't hybrid-only. Also, CRX rolls off the tongue a lot better than CRZ.
