E-mail I sent to Alan Mulally

Madman

Here's the e-mail I sent to Alan Mulally through Ford's website concerning the sale of Volvo to Geely.

https://secure.ford.com/footer/contact-ford/contact-us-email?contactMainTopic=GeneralCorporate

A message for Alan Mulally.

Alan,

I have owned three Volvos and two Fords and I am writing to express my anger at your company's decision to sell Volvo to a Chinese comapny, Geely.

If you sell Volvo to the Chinese, I will never, never, NEVER buy another Volvo ever again.  In addition, I will NEVER buy another Ford, either!

I can understand and appreciate the reasons why you might consider selling Volvo. (although, given Ford's recent return to profitability, I don't see why you have to sell Volvo at this time?) But, knowing how the Chinese operate, I see nothing good coming from the sale of Volvo to a company that is simply an extension of a brutal, totalitarian Communist regime.

Rest assured, if this sale goes through, neither I or anyone in my extended family will ever buy another Ford product ever again!  Also, I will encourage all my friends, relatives and business associates to avoid Ford products in the future.

**************************************************************************

I know it won't do any good, but I wanted to vent my anger at Ford for letting Volvo fall into the hands of the Chinese.  Damn you, FORD!  :heated:

I'm sure it will sit right on top of his daily stack for his immediate attention.

Was this sale announced?  I knew it was under consideration, but it is a sad, sad day if it does go through.

I don't understand why this even affects you when:

Geely is privately owned. It is probably the largest Chinese company to be privately owned.

You don't buy new cars.

Volvo isn't making ford any money, and Geely isn't retarded, they'll likely do a SAIC and take all the engineers and staff with them.

I do not see why (in fact it kind of makes me mad) this has to be an us vs. them political issue. You really think that the development of 1 billion people should be stifled because they don't do the same things we do?

Submariner

Well, we are giving them the capitol to become our masters some day, so we minus well expedite the process by giving them more technology, too.

There is no such thing as private ownership in Communist China.  Even companies that are technically privately owned are still controlled, either directly or indirectly, by the Central Government/Communist Party.  The government can step in anytime it wants to and take over.

If Ford wants to sell Volvo, fine.  But I would rather see it go to anyone but the Chinese.  I may not buy new cars but I still don't want to see Volvo fall into the hands of people who have demonstrated time and time again that they are not to be trusted.  (Check out the story of how SAIC tricked MG Rover into giving them the intellectual property rights for all their cars and then walked away from the negotiating table, forcing MG Rover into bankruptcy.  This is a prime example of Chinese dirty business tactics!)

Just remember a good portion of all that money we send to China goes to build up their military.  They are increasing the size of their navy at an alarming rate.  Why would they be doing that?  It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out!

Cheers,

There may still be hope:

engineers that has also expressed interest in Volvo, hasn?t
given up, its spokesman Ola Johansson said today. ?Jakob is
still interested if the seller would invite us to the
negotiation table,? Johansson said in a phone interview.

1.  Private ownership is a joke in China.  The joke's on us.
2.  It is us vs. them.  China is the enemy.  This is not much different from selling Volvo to the Taliban.  You just can't see that because you like all those shitty little Chinese cars, likely because you were lobotomized at some point without your knowledge.

I was hoping that either Volvo Trucks or Volvo Construction Equipment would snap them up.  Both of them must be making a shitload of money because I see them all over the place.  You'd think they'd want their car division back into the fold.

That's why Sara Palin pulled out of politics.  She's taken up a position watching out for Chinese invaders coming over the Bering Strait.

If no one else wants to buy Volvo, why shouldn't they sell it to Geely?  If I was Alan Mullaly I would crumple it up and throw it in the wastebasket because you obviously have no clue how business like this works.  Sorry if I offended anyone.  Happy Secular Holiday Season..

I wasn't drunk either; just not pulling punches.  I think we're far too friendly and comfortable with the Chinese, and I think we spend way too much time being alarmed about global warming and other monsters in the closet or under the bed that we're just ignoring the Chinese and hoping that nothing will come of it.  It's like driving on the highway; if you cut someone off and they then pull alongside gesticulating madly, you look straight ahead and hope they go away.

You had your time on top ... now their time is comming. The only thing you can do about it is to prepare for the eventual fall from grace. It's up to you if it's gone be slow and fair to you all or a abrrupt and painfull one.

BTW, pay back the Chinese (and the Middle Easterners) the trillions you owe, and then you'll be on the position to wave your d*cks at them. ;)

Bend over and take it has never been the right strategy.  I wouldn't be so calm if I were you, either.  Whenever a totalitarian regime rises to power, it's a problem for everyone.

Well, the Chinese government haven't become the top dog yet. And they must keep increasing internal pressure to keep status quo at home. The biggest problem with China s that they might eventually do something stupid for internal reasons - like invading Taiwan, or something.

As for the Middle East, they haven't really impressed me with how they manage their oil wealth yet. I doubt that region will be the next global powerhouse.

This is why I'm not worried about China. Rather, we'd be in a more dangerous spot if we weren't so close economically.

Well, that doctrine would work a lot better if the one side wasn't a communist dictatorship with a knack for extreme measures in time of internal crisis..... like the cultural revolution and tiananmen square.

Nixon had some good insight on that very issue when he began lifting trade restrictions and pursuing a relationship with China during his first term.  I don't have the quote handy, sorry, but he had a clear sense that China was a rising power and that we wanted to be on their side.

dazzleman

Though I don't think Nixon ever envisioned that we'd allow ourselves to get into a position of financial dependency on the Chinese to finance our huge and chronic deficits.  As long as we allow that situation to continuen we will be in a weak position, and it will be getting weaker.

Ifcar is right in a sense.  We have MAD in an economic realm with the Chinese.  It would be better had we not been so weak and self-indulgent to give a country so recently so backward such power over us.

I don't think our decline is inevitable.  It's within our power to arrest and reverse it.  The only question is whether we have the will.  And the Europeans ought not take such smug satisfaction in our decline, because it will have very bad effects on them too.  They seem not to recognize how dependent they are on US power and benevolence for their own well-being.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!

AltinD

Me as European does not see the matter in black-and-white as you guys do.
