New Porsche 911 Turbo likely for Geneva Show
Date Posted 08-22-2005

ZUFFENHAUSEN, Germany ? Porsche is likely to unveil its new-generation 911 Turbo sports car at next year's Geneva Motor Show.

The Turbo, which is one of the most expensive models in the 911 range, should go on sale in North America in the middle of next year as a 2007 model.

Rumors have recently suggested the Turbo would first go on sale in Europe next spring. That makes Geneva a likely candidate for the site of the new model's unveiling, and the company has confirmed this. Porsche tends to use the auto shows in Geneva, Frankfurt and Detroit to introduce its new cars.

The new 911 Turbo will reportedly use a new four-wheel-drive system, likely adapted from the new-generation 911 Carrera 4 and 4S.

Porsche tends to release derivatives of its 911, a model line that celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2003, in a certain sequence. An overhaul of the 911 line came out last August, in the form of the entry-level 911 Carrera and Carrera S. Since then, Porsche has unveiled convertible versions of the standard models as well as coupe and convertible models with all wheel drive. Look for a track ready GT3 model to join the lineup some months after the Turbo.

What this means to you: If you've been waiting for the ultimate 997 get your order in now because it won't be long before Turbos start rolling off the assembly line.

If they use the same formula as the 996, the GT3 would be a high revving NA H6, and a hypothetical GT2 would be a a turbo sans AWD and back seats.  That's the ultimate 911!

Porsche has all the sports car secrets! A cheap one (Carrera, Carrera S...they're not cheap, but you get it), a really fast one (911 Turbo), track ready one (GT3), super expensive and fast one (GT2), and special edition models every now and then. They got the recipe complete.

IMHO the GT3 is the ultimate 911.

depends on what you think is the ultimate quality. If its speed, GT2 is the ultimate. Anyway i honestly like the 996 look abit more than the 997 as of right now.
"On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high." - Ayrton Senna

Yep, the GT2 is faster but I prefer a higher revving engine myself.

I much prefer the 993 over both the 997 and 996.

Wow!

That is a sexy car, but my preference is still the 997 (though I don't like the 996 and never have)..

I agree with TBR for once.   :o  :D

997 is sexy as hell.  Here's a question for you folks.

Turbo or GT3?  Which would you take?

Give me a turbo anyday.  B)

GT3 by far.  Its RWD and is naturally aspirated.  Enough said :praise:

Ah yes...the age old question. High compression or turbo?

I prefer the turbo's passing power over the high compression engine's off the line punchiness. Besides, they're so good at making turbos now, that you don't really get lag anymore.

However, I like the GT3 more for it's lower curb weight and RWD. The Turbo seems to be the look-at-me rich man's toy rather that a true Porschephile's car.

GT3. High revving NA, lighter, and RWD. :praise:
handles much better than the turbo.
