What's the proper name for this light?

TurboDan

The red one on the rear side of your car. I want to order it (since mine is out) but there's no category for it on my favorite auto parts site. Maybe I'm not looking for the right name??

S204STi

I've always referred to it as a corner marker.

Marker light.

Are you looking for a new bulb or the entire lens and light assembly?

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

Most cars use a 194 bulb there. Can't say if VW would or not. If so they're very cheap.

Rupert

Yeah, I don't think you need to order a bulb...

Excuse me? It's like you think I haven't been fixing my own cars for as long as I have owned them, or something.

Bulb?  I didn't figure it to be anything more than a reflector!

In some cars it's a reflector. In this one it has a bulb in it for some reason. Probably because the taillights don't wrap around like they do in some cars.

That should tell you what kind of bulb you need.  Like Onslaught said, probably a 194.  I'm not sure what specific model/year your vehicle is, so I can't check for you...

AutobahnSHO

Autozone and the like have books you can look in, or they can punch it into the 'puter and tell you for free!!!!

Or you can just pull it out and look at it...

So many ways to find out what bulb you need, and I didn't think any of them needed a thread.

I'm surprised no one has suggested simply looking in your owner's manual for the model of bulb. There should be a list of all the car's light bulbs.

TurboDan

Funny thing was, I went to AutoZone and the guy couldn't find it anywhere in his book.  :hammerhead:

Parts guys never know anything.  It's always best to figure it out on your own first and then go in and tell them exactly where to look.

Rupert

I just pull the bulb out and bring it in. It'll have a number on it, usually.

Oh God, even then they still screw it up.

I gave up on Autozone. I only go to Advance now.

This is a Passat or something, and it's a little side marker, to boot. Do you really think for half a second that the little side marker in a typical family car needs to be ordered? Even the headlight bulbs are probably easy to find.

And I am talking about just cars, duh.
