I came across a wedding today and they had this nice Citroen 11 CV 4 "Familiale". 1950s French luxury at its finest. 4-cylinder-powered and FWD.

Here's the website of the agency that rented out the car: http://www.veteranen-pkw.de/oldtimer-muenchen/oldtimer.htm

^They also have a 1926 Chevrolet A.D. Cabriolet if you want to rent one for a wedding...^

And here we have the happy couple...

Bahahaha. Is that an intentional dig at the French?

It's 30's French luxury, anyhow ;)

I went for a walk and came upon the wedding and the car. I nicely asked the chauffeur if I can take pictures and he said "Sure". I didn't take to many shots because those two boys there were bothering the hell out of me with their running around. I had to be nice since their daddy was nearby.  :tounge:

The car has its origins in the '30s, but it's a '53 model. The Traction Avant family was still built well into the 1950s, even early 1960s I believe.  :ohyeah:

Magnifique!

It is indeed the case that these cars were produced well into the 1950s. The replacement, the even more wonderful DS, was the star of the 1955 Auto Salon in Paris.

Are you sure it is only an 11CV? I would guess that it might be a 15CV?

Awesome cars that had great handling, way ahead of the competition.

I have real soft spot for French cars of the '50s-70s; I spent quite a lot of time there: vacations, visiting friends, language immersion etc. It was like a treasure trove of novelty for someone who had grown up with British cars only.

If only more people had an appreciation for such cars.  :ohyeah:

On other forums the typical response to such a car as this 11 CV4 would be: "OMG, it's like sooooo slow and FWD! Bah! And it's French!"

I have no idea why that design should look attractive, but it does .

Don't let it looks fool you. The 2CV was also a very successful rally car and its comfort is legendary. It may have looked like a frail tin can, but it sure was one of the best built French cars ever. There was a documentary on it a few months ago on TV. Amazing little machine.  :ohyeah:

Our concours had a Citroen-built coal-powered Traction Avant. It was the bomb diggity.

Those big things on either side of the engine are coal bins or boilers or something like that.
