996 Turbo has the more reliable engine block

Performance is still relevant 10 years later

It's a PORSCHE!!!

Only minuses... $700 a mo??? It will depreciate $100-200 a month. Interior is ugly. Looks ricey with those ugly wheels

Bro's is a cabrio, I like the coupe better. This one is a '99 with 88k kms (50k miles). Appointment in the morning for financing. I haven't financed a car in 5 years. I'm thinking it'll cost me $690/60 months. This purchase is/was planned for after my pension payout, but I got a real bad itch after driving bro's 996 back in April.

This car has no warranty. Porsche maintenance costs an arm and a leg, easily double a monthly payment. Especially since it's a 911.  God help you if something breaks.

Dude, if you get a Porsche, you BETTER come to the next GTG and bring it with you.  We're going to want to see it firsthand..:ohyeah:
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!

Excellent point. I've been looking at certified pre-owned examples from Pfaff Porsche in Toronto. They offer a good warranty, and I can get more from the STS on a trade in to go towards the car than if I tried to sell it locally.

How's the STS treating you?

I don't care about all that shit.  I'll be going to college to get an education at a cost to my parents.  I'm not going to fool around.

I'm going to stay home tomorrow and sulk. I'm excited to see it, and I really can afford it, but I have to stick to priorities.

Terrific car. One of the best I've ever owned.

Weren't you eyeballing a new Camaro SS? I'd go that route (i.e., new/newer) for a $30-$35k car, especially if making payments on it.

Also, the new Mustang 5.0 made the Camaro a little less attractive. (I do still like 'em though).

I didn't pay much attention to the picture, but I echo the sentiments of many here who aren't liking the kit.

Also, if buying a 996, I'd hold off; I didn't see the numbers.  $700 a month!  Fuck that.  I'd sacrifice looks and got for a 99-00 for around 20K.  Same driving experience, and very little depreciation to worry about.

Holding off. Talking with the wife, and some advice here, I'm going to stick to the original plan.

Yeah, but original owner and 50k miles. Listed at $30k but I was going to offer 25 and go from there.

My impression was that Raza thought it was a newer, post-facelift 996.  Just clarifying.

If I can negotiate the car down to $25,000, put up $5000 cash, finance the rest from the bank @ 7% (don't know what rate I can get yet), sell the STS to replace the $5000.... I can get it for $505 over 60 months. I'm still going to talk to the bank tomorrow and then see the car. This is driving me nuts. The power of want is overwhelming sound logic and reasoning.  :banghead:

Yeah, probably not a bad idea to pass. May be only 50k miles but my guess it's up for new tires, brakes, shocks, and a tune-up. On a 911 even doing as much as possible by one's self I'm seeing easily $2,500, and if you're paying someone, could be half again as much.

Cookie Monster

$700 per month for a car that old already seems kinda bad.

That still seems like a lot.  There are 99s here with only a handful more miles for 19-21.  Plus the wheels are terrible.

I know how you feel.  I just walked away from a deal because I shifted some priorities in my life.  It's hard to do.  But I think it's the right thing to do in this case.

Want to be working the rest of your life? IF you spend your retirement money in an irresponsible way, and even before you have it you can guarantee you won't be retiring anytime soon.

Ya, ya, you're doing some business with your brother. The only thing that is guaranteed 100% is your retirement money from the military. Anything can happen in business.

Don't do it.

If you get a 911, get one without an ugly spoiler, body kit and aftermarket rims. Also, I would probably not get a 911 if I had to finance it.

I'd think he'd want a car that he'd be actually able to drive, not just have repaired!

If he buys a 911 for 19-21, he'll be able to sell it in 5-6 years for 14 or 15.

Damn, $700 a mo for that... yea that's crazy. I would fuck with a regular 996 Carrera though, those go for like 20K
