It's only a Double Six if it had the V12 engine in it. Few were sold. The far more numerous cars, with the legendary XK engine were called Sovereign. Lovely car, regardless of which engine is under the bonnet!

I agree. Timeless and classic design. I never really understood what the difference was between British Daimler and Jaguar. Were Daimler's more expensive versions of Jaguars? I know there was a Daimler-Benz connection in there somewhere, as I read that's how British Daimler received their name.

Daimler was a separate marque until acquisition by Jaguar in the early 1960s...... they had already absorbed Lanchester in the 1950s. So cars produced until that time were completely different designs. The last of these was the SP250 otherwise known as the Dart, launched in 1959,. After this, Daimler became badge engineered Jags, though the first such effort, this 2.5 litre V8 was a least mechanically different. It was the Mark 2 body with the 2.5 litre V8 engine under the bonnet. After this, there was a Sovereign based on the 420G, then Sovereign versions of the XJ6. Double Six was a reincarnation of a name used in the 1930s when the V12 XJ12 model was launched. They are easy to identify from the front as all Daimler had a fluted top to the radiator grille. The marque was phased out in the 1990s, with the death of the DS420 Limousine model ........  and yes, they always cost a little more than the equivalent Jaguar.
