Awesome car in good shape, but the handling is kind of scary since there is a lot of play in the steering wheel (hopefully, there will be an easy fix for that one.) Also, the hood wouldn't close properly when I drove it home, which was kind of creepy at times, especially when it started to flap at about 60 mph. Thank god the hitch held. (I've fixed it now.) The overall comfort is amazing with the soft suspension and the effortless power of the V8. it's thirsty , though - around 1,3 l/10km

And the car is huge. I'd never seen one in real life before I stood beside mine  :-).

Wednesday, Im taking it for an inspection by Norwegian DMV. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll pass. I'll take some pics then.

13l/100km is not that bad. I would have expected something close to 20.

That's not bad for a car of that vintage with a V8.  Is it a 351?

I wish to see a picture of this Fjord Ranchero.

Regarding the steering, you might want to take it into a mechanic, or look into it yourself. My dad's truck's recirculating ball steering improved dramatically when he took it into the mechanic. Before, there was a lot of slop on center that made it stressful to drive at freeway speeds.

As for the steering, it's a 1970's American boat.  The steering sucks.  It's extremely light and vague with no feel.  The movement on center will be a couple of inches without affecting the front wheels at all.

The steering can be adjusted to reduce the play, but it will never be "good". I just replaced the steering box in my El Camino for a newer unit out of a Monte Carlo SS. I'm not sure if Ranchero's have similar options.

:ohyeah:

I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with the steering. It felt like the other land yachts I've driven from that era. It certainly can't hurt to check it out, though.

You should get a photo of the DMV inspectors face when he sees the car.

The steering in the 83 Chevy truck my dad had was really loose and I hated it.  The steering in the Benz felt good but needed an alignment.

It's an economy car with a pickup bed.

Pretty much like a Subaru Brat but not as cool.

I love The Brat! At least it was offered with 4WD.

Ah, I see. It didn't have the obligatory 3940902930290129112093003903-hp base 3092340930cid V8.  :ohyeah:

It was FWD, which isn't exactly ideal for a vehicle that's supposed to be able to haul cargo in the back (front end gets light and you have no traction).  Additionally, it was based on the Dodge Omni, which isn't exactly fondly remembered.
