ATS 2.0T, 8AT!?

Also, 3.90 seems really, really short. My car has a final drive of 3.55, and I have at least 60 fewer HP.

Rumor is GM also has a 7spd MT coming.

This car is looking great so far (by the numbers, although I'm sure the car will physically look really good)

GM is doing great things with Cadillac while Ford lets Lincoln rot.

Ford is promising completely different models/cars for Lincoln than Ford.

I see Lincoln as a Buick competitor rather than a Cadillac/BMW/Lexus/MBZ

Sure, the new and improved Ford Taurus and Fusion.

I meant they said mechanically different.

Until they decide to make some rwd cars again I'm not interested.

My 940 had 4.10 gears.  It was fine.

Cool.  I wish Lincoln would get it's act together now.

You also have 2-3 fewer gears. CJ I bet had 4 fewer gears.

The 2012 Camaro will getting these engines as well (470 hp 6.2L V8 and 330 hp 3.6L V6).

Rumor is the next Camaro will have a 7spd MT so I'm willing to bet if it's true the ATS will get it as well.

A 7 speed on the floor or will this be a paddle shift?

SJ_GTI

Loved this line at the end:

"Also, note the 8 speed auto gearbox. At this point they should just give it three more gears ? just to say they turned the gearbox all the way to 11."

I hope like hell it's a dual clutch paddle shifter.  7 gears in a traditional manual would be a massive fail.

hotrodalex

Are they really wondering how they will fit an LS engine in the engine bay, using the supercharged LS9 as an example?

How so?  It can allow the first 6 to be close together and still having an economy gear.

Slots below the CTS as a more direct 3 series competitor.

But the gear pattern would have to be expanded. 4 rows of gears is quite a bit, seems like it would be easy to shift into the wrong gear.

FG ratios have no meaning w/o considerations for regular ratios

For example most M/T Hondas have FG ratios between 4-5.0 but they still have normal shift points WRT their redlines.

For some reason I've not heard of it until now.

Is it on the same platform as the new Regal? (assuming because of the 2.0T guise...)

I believe this will be an Alpha car, which is RWD

Nope, as stangfan said it's based on the alpha platform which is small and RWD.

More gears = smaller ratios = more shifting.

6 is way more than enough. A 7 speed is just stupid. People say 8 speed autos keep hunting for gears, I don't want to be hunting for gears by myself in a 7 speed manual.

Hell, a Corvette already accelerates like crazy, has a high top speed and also gets great MPG's on the highway. Why need a 7th gear?
